When there was only one track in Torn, it made sense that you would join an official race, choose your car and then see the track and the other racers joining you.
With the new race system we have different tracks that benefit from using different cars. However, the selection process hasn't changed. We still pick a car, find out what the track is, and then re-select the proper car for that track.
When you join an official race, it should tell you which track you'll be racing and then you choose your car.

Did you estimate distances between cities based on the 24,901 circumference?
Perhaps you should take known flying speeds of the aircraft used. Perhaps the world is indeed as small as some claim.
Also, I believe Torn City is in Beaumont, Texas. It lines up with the image, is near the coast, and if I just take random letters out of the name, I can spell TO-N.
And not only do the towns offer a way to earn items and make some money, it took up time as well. For some that may be a turn off the, but if you're active and looking to kill some time waiting for a race to finish or a stock to update, you could go wandering around the town of the time.
Besides, the towns were community events, too. Posts always flood the forums for questions and maps and chest combos and theories.
i think both should be run to give variety. Or have verbiage in the town events reference the forum events to tie them together.
