Edit (11/05/24) - 250 Supporting Players Achieved Thank you for the feedback and support on this suggestion. I personally reached out to hundreds of top directors in Torn, securing considerable support and feedback for this proposal in just four days. Of the 250 current supporters, approximately 90% of them are company directors. In addition, the supporting comments on this discussion thread, all from directors, speak for themselves. My approach involved conducting research with key individuals to determine the viability of this idea. It's important to note that I did not seek positive endorsements for my post; instead, I sought honest opinions on my proposal and was open to other suggestions.
In response to expected feedback from developers regarding the existence of private and public company forums for posting, I acknowledge that those areas exist. However, faction descriptions and announcements have shown significant value in setting clear expectations and quickly conveying information to those interested in joining. I believe implementing a similar approach for companies could be even more impactful. Companies, being more numerous and diverse than factions, see more frequent transitions between them due to the 39 distinct types of companies, each offering five unique specials (although not all are unique). This creates a stronger incentive for players to switch companies.
Implementing this should be straightforward since the necessary template code already exists in factions. It would involve some modifications to the database and additional testing time, but it's not an enormous task. You might wonder whether such a minor feature is worthwhile. My answer is a resounding yes. While this suggestion will never be a developer priority, I believe it should be respected and considered. If a simple, quality of life enhancement that has overwhelming company director support isn't seen as valuable, then what even is the purpose of having a suggestions / feedback forum? That's my perspective.
This represents the strongest case I could possibly make to support my proposal and to hopefully see some feedback from Chedburn soon.
We currently have a faction announcement and description. Why not do that for companies too?
Being a director myself, this would be a simple and effective way of letting employees know what is expected of them. Having a description and announcement would make this effective both before they apply and after they've been hired. For example: - Pay expectations - Work stat requirements - When to rehab - Current Objectives - Train Rota - Taxes (if applicable)
Not a huge change but it would just be really handy to have that information right there on the company page. It would also reduce the number of company newsletters I need to send out. I think it could also see a reduction in the number of threads created in the company recruitment forum.
I've drafted some mock-ups just for some visual aid.
EDIT: Thank you all for supporting this idea. it is much appreciated. It has now hit 100 thumbs up. Hopefully, it will be considered and developed.
EDIT: Thanks again for the continued support. We have now hit 200 thumbs up. I guess developers are currently busy with territories, which is fair enough. However, there is clearly a demand for this bazaar issue to be resolved.
EDIT: 3 YEARS LATER... It still sucks.
Status: No response.
Hello all.
When you visit a bazaar, you are faced with an endless page of this diabolical mess:
Problem
-The same item is listed mutliple times (Bazaar spam). -Makes bazaars almost unusable. Negative effect for both the buyer and seller.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one frustrated with the current design. I know why it's presented the way it is. The same item is listed multiple times because the stats are different for each. However, it doesn't have to be like that.
Design 101 is simplicity and usablity. A good design should make the user experience as effortless as possible. I don't understand the developers current approach to the design.
Here's my proposed solution. Not a huge difference, but enough to elimate the issue in hand.
Solution -Drop down approach. -Categoric Filtering -Sorting of statistical values (Decending/Ascending). -Duplicate statistical value would be listed as '(2 in Stock)'.
I think the whole item market in general needs an overhaul. Maybe they're already working on it. Maybe not...
By no means am I saying that my idea is the perfect solution. Please feel free to post additional ideas to this suggestion. I will list the good ones below.
There is no need whatsoever for it to be the way it is. Just imagine having to click "Gym" every time just to train once, and then having to click "Gym" again to train again (once). It's completely unnecessary! In the image above I have demonstrated all it would take to make a company owners Torn experience that little bit better!
I'd like to suggest a small quality-of-life improvement that I believe would benefit and streamline the workflow for many faction leadership teams. I've mocked together an illustration below to demonstrate this addition.
Currently, we can send newsletters to specific roles, which is handy but could be enhanced for greater flexibility. The idea is to add a toggle between "Roles" and "Members." Selecting "Roles" would retain the existing functionality. Selecting "Members" would allow us to individually choose the specific members we want to send the newsletter to.
Why might this be useful? The concept came to me while following up on Halloween preparations with my faction members.
Scenario: War or Event Preparation
Most factions send out availability spreadsheets via newsletter before a war or major event to gauge who will be active and prepared. This works fine initially, as you can just send it to "All." However, a day or two later, some members have filled it out, while others haven't (read the damn newsie!!). In these cases, you either have to contact the unresponsive individuals one by one or resend the newsletter to everyone, which feels wasteful and frustrating for members who followed the instructions the first time.
You could technically assign those people a temporary new role and send a targeted newsletter that way, but then you'd have to reassign them all back afterward, which just doesn't flow well.
The proposed feature above would let us easily target reminders to just those specific members, without the hassle of visiting each profile, clicking "message," entering a title, pasting the content, and sending. When you add up all those extra page loads and actions, it's a significant waste of time and resources compared to this approach. It would also be far more efficient server-side.
I have a simple yet long-standing idea: introducing the ability to mention a player using "@". This feature would notify the player that they are being discussed in the forums.
It seems unusual that in such a community-based game with an active forum, we aren't notified when someone mentions us. Currently, the only way to receive such notifications is when our post gets quoted.
This feature has proven to be extremely effective on platforms like YouTube, X, Instagram, etc.I believe most players would support this idea.
Usage example: "If you're interested in new suggestions, I hear @mutley has come up with a few."
You get an event when being trained by a company director. If your app has event notifications turned on, then yes you will get a notification. Moved to Graveyard
