I have my initiate chat option set to just people I know in order to prevent solicitation via chat. But staff are able to bypass that setting such that I get solicitations only and specifically from staff, at which I feel frustrated.
But I am also sure this side-stepping of the chat settings is not intentional on the staff’s end. And they arguably need to retain the overall ability to initiate a chat to do their jobs effectively.
So to help both staff and players, please consider adding measures to ensure the staff member understands the user’s privacy settings prior to initiating. This identifier would help prevent staffers from using their privileges to invade a user’s daily gameplay for unofficial communications. It could protect the staffer from potential conflict from the user. You could also protect the user because you could hold a staffer accountable should they intentionally bypass for personal reasons.
Some examples: a special colored icon for the chat bubble on the profile page; custom-to-staff search filters that by default are set to users who allow all to chat, such that a staffer would have to intentionally override in order for a limited-chat user to show in the results.
Currently only leader or co-leader can declare war or victory. If this had its own permission setting it would benefit me/my faction greatly, so that additional members of the faction have this ability. We are all in different time zones, so if one set of members is chaining and myself or my co-lead isn't on, they run out of options or can't claim victory over a ranked war and move on. Don't know if other factions feel the same, but just some food for thought.
The staff aren't approaching me to stop doing something, guys. The reason we ought to implement an identifier like this is because their jobs for Torn may function in part via chat, and we should want them to retain that ability while also being able to respect user settings.
So if they need to chat you as a Torn representative, they still have that ability; but if they want to chat you as a representative for a company or faction, they can see this identifier (or the search filter weeds out this subset of users anyway) and just not chat you.
I am not looking to bust a staffer on this and dislike the idea of publishing their chats like some gotcha game; this behavior is likely done unintentionally/in ignorance.... They have no way of knowing right now! The goal is a preventative solution that appropriately informs the staff.
