Issue: Nearly an entire faction abused the gender change function to bypass the elimination events team randomization process.
Supporting facts:
87 out of 100 faction members are in the Pink Power elimination team.
Many of those members were not female before the competition and/or have already switched back to male gender.
Of those faction members, 6 are in the teams top 10 and account for over 1,600 attacks.
The affected team has nearly double the attacks of most other teams.
Other concerns/ideas/thoughts:
If actual randomized picks had been assigned the max number from any faction should have been more in the 15-20 range.
There are many more examples of gender switching to manipulate game results but nearly an entire faction breaking game rules is the most egregious example.
Having almost 1/10th of your elimination team in the same faction is a huge advantage because of the shared communication and resources that other teams do not have.
Proposed ideas:
Remove the offending team.
Very negative impact to the several hundred that chose that team fairly.
Remove players who abused the randomization system from the elimination event.
Write a script to search for trends in gender changes prior to the event and/or changes back after the event started.
Labor intensive and may be difficult to find (planning appears to have been made far in advance).
Reset the competition and remove the gender specific team choice.
Big impact to players that have already devoted time and energy to the competition so far.
Impacts:
With almost double the attacks of most teams, the exploited advantage is very apparent. Subtle changes in scoring or scoring caps cannot make up for that imbalance.
Removing the offenders impacts only those players (300? 400?).
Although every aspect of Torn is tested strenuously before release, unintentional exploits are sometimes possible. Every action and gain in Torn is logged with timestamps often going back years in the past, so exploiting a bug / glitch / hack is impossible to get away with. If you find an abusable exploit, do not share it with others. Report it to the developers immediately - you'll be rewarded for your discovery. Continuing to abuse an exploit without reporting it will result in account deletion.
TLDR: Submit a creative work that was rejected by the Torn powers that be and if you get likes you get a prize.
Who/what/why (Gamora)?:I am Many of us are pretty annoyed at putting creative effort into contests only to see random winners picked, or winners picked from the first few pages, or winners picked with obviously half ass "who gives a shit" kinda work. Then, to make it even better, staffers pitch a fit about placeholders when poor judging technique created the mad-rush placeholder mindset. Sigh... anyway... I can't do much to console myself but I figure I can at least provide some rejection redemption for others.
[]
Rules:
To enter, post a pic, story, comic, or other creative work that you submitted here in Torn that was rejected.
If your post receives enough likes you will win a prize(s).
(update #1) Limit three entries per person. This might be removed depending on how further donations go.
Prize Levels:
10 likes: 1 Certificate of Awesome and some candy
50 100 likes: 1 Xanax (drug free people may request a gluten free prize)
100 200likes: 1 Business Class Ticket
250 500 likes: 1 Feathery Hotel Coupon
500 1000 likes: I dunno, I'll think of something!
Grand Prize (any # of likes): Recognition for your work. []
Prize levels may be adjusted if the likes are too hard to come by, or if they're too easy to get and I go broke trying to run this.
Donations are certainly accepted. Credit for any donations will be given here on the thread (unless anonymity is preferred).
I intend to run this indefinitely... or at least until I get bored with it.
Any updates or rule changes will be posted in a new post and edited into this post.
Updates:
None yet []
#1 Added graphics, calmed down some of my ranting, and lowered prize levels at the suggestion of contributors. (Seemed fair enough given that the idea is to reward those who were passed over.) I also changed the name because "Redemption" can also imply that there was some kind of wrong doing to be redeemed.
Sure, the middle frame was real world stuff... but NOT TORN RELATED?!?! Not "PROFESSIONAL" enough??? You mean compared to the MS paint created entries that fill the comics page?!??! Even though it directly says: "Comics that have been rushed or made with MS Paint, will NOT be accepted."...
Hey folks... figured that instead of blowing it all on slots and bookie bets (dangit, I had high hopes for LVK) I figured I'd give away some gifts to five lucky new players. []
Rules:
Level limit: 14 (once you hit 15 and can travel, 20m should only take a week or so to make).
Your NW can't be over or have ever been over 20m. (don't be greedy)
Reply to this thread to enter. (optional: post here and give a sentence or two about what brought you to Torn... I'd love to see more actual posts from new players in GD)
Your account has to AT LEAST predate this post.
I reserve the right to ignore any suspicious entrants o_O
I'll look through the entries on Monday and weed out any obvious scammers. I ain't digging THAT crazy deep though. If you wanna scam a gift and screw over a newbie that could use it... that's yer karma [:dizzy:]
I was gonna post up a screen shot of the gifts, but forgot to catch one before flying. So, here's a listing:
Primary Weapon: Enfield SA-80
Secondary Weapon: BT MP9
Melee Weapon: Macana
Fashion: Trench Coat
Stealth/Fashion: Mask
Full set of combat armor (pants, gloves, helmet, vest, boots)
Good luck and please spread the word to any truly new players you might know.
Edit: ugh... it's > 100m giveaway, not just a million
Just had an idea while flying and playing with the stocks... It'd be pretty cool to have digital currency in torn. I wouldn't wanna screw with the existing systems because that could really mess up existing stuff. It'd be fun to add a new form of currency and grow it from the ground up (like digital currency has done).
Some concepts for implementation:
Copy the virus programming menu with a mining menu.
Choose how long you want to mine
could even have different e coins (similar to virus menu)
Add a little random variance on coins mined
Charge a fee up front (gotta pay for the hardware and electric bill)
Add a new stock when/if the coin market grows big enough
Value impacted by coins created and bought/sold
Hacking events impact values
Potentially a highly volatile stock
Could eventually use e coins to pay for "online" purchases (stocks, bounties, etc...)
Opportunity to tweak and revive low use existing game features
More usefulness for the PC/Laptop
Most of this could be cloned code from existing game menus
Might come back later and clean this up some more. Too many ideas floating around at the moment and I have stuff to check off the "honey do" list today :D

related idea: Online Banking:
the ability to access the banking pagee currency page from anywhere you can access a laptop.
Easiest implementation would be to sell the ability for points. The most realistic implementation would be to also charge a % fee on every transaction completed online (simulated banks with their ATM and transaction fees).
No more time to mess with this right now... back to just disabling.
edit: Who TF am I kidding??
GPT's advice:
What can you do now? (The “hardening config” I promised)
1️⃣ Keep Hardware Acceleration disabled in Chrome for now. This is fully safe; you lose very little real-world performance unless you're playing high-end video or running complex 3D web apps.
2️⃣ Stay fully updated:
Keep NVIDIA drivers updated — especially once WHQL 555.x / 560.x branch matures.
Monitor Chromium versions — many of these bugs are being actively worked on for M126 / M127.
3️⃣ Optional advanced workaround (works for some Ada owners):
Disable HAGS in Windows (sometimes helps even with HW Accel on):
Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Default graphics settings → Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling → Off
Disable MPO (Multiplane Overlay) via registry tweak:
Can eliminate compositor crashes for some users.
Safe to try; fully reversible.
If you want — I can write you a safe script to toggle MPO on/off for testing. Many high-end laptop owners on Ada are doing this.
TLDR: Hey Torn, could we have a "disable fancy rendering" button? Cause it makes the page laggy as heck, even for a BEAST of a system.
edit: I'm just going to leave HW accel off for now... I doubt anything I do on the web really NEEDS it, and a game touted as being lightweight/easily accessible certainly shouldn't NEED it.
Chrome, with hardware acceleration enabled, was tripping over some combination of:
Chromium’s WebGL / ANGLE rendering pipeline
NVIDIA’s Laptop Ada driver (4080 mobile GPUs have a few known quirks esp. with dynamic power switching)
Windows 11's new GPU Hardware Scheduling (HAGS) + WDDM 3.2+ stack
Torn.com’s rendering (possibly heavy dynamic canvas or WebGL-based rendering on that scamming page)
The interaction between Chromium → ANGLE (DirectX backend) → NVIDIA Optimus/Dynamic MUX → Windows 11 HAGS is where this kind of thing tends to happen.
Why Edge works:
Even though Edge is Chromium-based, Microsoft ships a slightly different graphics pipeline with more fallback paths, and it may handle memory/resource contention differently than Chrome’s pure upstream Chromium build.
