How do you add a profile picture in Torn?

TornLife researched this question and found the points below; each one is taken from the sources cited. TornLife could not write them up as a full answer.

Has the process changed in recent updates?

  • Patch list #84 (05/03/19) added a new text editor to the forums and converted existing posts. Patch list #39 (03/04/18) added the BBCode testing forum. Earlier, in 2015 and 2016, players reported images stripped on posting and asked how to add images after the editor changed.[1][2][3]
  • Patch list #440 shows the webp avatar fix, the most recent profile picture change in this pack.[4]
  • The Torn Wiki says a player name is changed in Preferences. The login name cannot be changed. After a change, another change is blocked for 3 months.[5]
  • Before release, the feature was a long-running joke and much anticipated. Players asked for updates in 2017, 2019 and 2020, and a 2020 poster called it one of the most anticipated updates in Torn history. A 2020 poster liked a newspaper preview. (one player's report)[6][7][8]

Where in Torn's settings or profile page is the profile picture (display picture) set?

  • Chedburn is player ID 1, signed up 2004-11-15, level 15, with profile role Admin. TornLife observed him in the faction Medic!! (Medical Board) as of 2026-09-16.[11]
  • Cancellation depends on payment method. PayPal: PayPal settings - Payments - Manage your automatic payments. Amazon: on the in-game donator house page. Google: via the Google Play app subscriptions menu, only for the official Android app. Email payments@torn.com if there are issues.[12]
  • TornLife data lists Chedburn as Torn staff, Owner / lead developer. His forum posts carry the Developer role.[13][14]
  • The Torn Wiki says a player's profile image appears under their honor bar at the top left of the profile. Clicking it shows the player's other uploaded images, so a profile holds several uploaded pictures.[15]
  • A 2025 player asked how to upload a profile picture because uploads kept becoming a secondary picture rather than the main one. The pack shows no answer text. (one player's report)[16]
  • Torn may suspend betting on a game without notice and may reverse a settlement made in error. This can change balances, even making them negative. A developer said in 2022 that occasional cancellations, refunds and suspensions follow the provider's data.[17][18]
  • Chedburn (Developer) announced in 2015 that multiple accounts, meaning an additional account created by someone who already has one, are against Torn's rules.[19]
  • Players can edit or withdraw applications after sending them, via the faction profile.[20]
  • The wiki says armour mitigation is based on displayed pixel coverage on the player model: if a part looks covered it is covered, otherwise there is no protection. Overlapping armour uses the highest value, not the sum.[21]
  • The wiki says the faction leader, co-leader, or anyone given 'Money Giving' and 'Points Giving' permission can see all members' money and points balances in the 'Give to user' panel and give money or points to members. This is the in-game route for moving points to another player.[22]

Since the Medical Revamp of 23/02/21, Early Discharge is available to a faction's members only after the faction receives as many outside hits in 24 hours as it has members (excluding Fallen), minimum 20.[23][24][25]

What image requirements apply (size, format, hosting, URL vs upload)?

  • Profile pictures are uploaded, not linked by URL. Patch list #440 (07/07/2026) fixed newly uploaded webp profile pictures appearing as broken images for avatars in chat, so webp is an accepted upload format.[4]
  • The Torn Wiki BB Code page lists [img]Image URL[/img] as the code that displays an image. Wrapping it as [url=SITE URL][img]IMAGE URL[/img][/url] makes the image a hyperlink.[36]

How does the profile picture differ from the forum avatar and signature?

  • The wiki points to the Graphics forum and the Profiles page for BBCode help on making images show up, and there is a BBCode Testing Forum for trying codes.[40][41]
  • The wiki says forum posts can contain hosted images and hosted videos using BBCode, so the image must be at a URL. No native upload is described. Players' screenshots in posts appear as images from external hosts such as gyazo, postimg and picpaste.[42][43][44]
