How does attacking work in Torn, and how much energy does each attack cost?

Attacking another player costs 25 energy[1]. The wiki's older capture notes one exception: attacks under Love Juice during the Valentines Event cost 15[2]. A fight lasts up to 25 turns or five minutes, and the winner then picks Leave, Mug or Hospitalise[2][3].

Energy cost

  • Attacking another player costs 25 energy[1].
  • Love Juice during the Valentines Event made an attack cost 15, per the wiki's 2021 capture[2].
  • For comparison, a gym train costs 5 - 50 energy depending on the gym, and reviving costs 25 - 75[1].
  • Energy refills fully every five hours: 5 every 10 minutes (up to 150) or every 15 minutes (up to 100), depending on donator status. The cap at any moment is 1,000[4][5].

How a fight runs

  • You have 25 turns or five minutes. A turn can be using a weapon or temporary item, reloading, or trying to escape, with a one second cooldown between turns[2].
  • Up to four weapons can be equipped: Primary, Secondary, Melee and Temporary[6].
  • If neither side wins after 25 turns, it is a stalemate: no respect, and the kill streak is kept[7].
  • If five minutes pass first, it counts as an attacker loss and breaks the kill streak[7].
  • A losing attacker goes to hospital for 15 - 30 minutes[7].
  • The defender's weapon choice each turn follows relative weights, not percentages. With Primary 80, Secondary 40, Melee 60 and Temporary 100, a Temporary is used with 35.71% chance[8][9].
  • Against several attackers, Distraction applies. The defender's chance to act against each attacker is 1/(D+1), which is 50% with two attackers[10].

After you win

OptionResult
LeaveMost level experience; defender in hospital 15 - 30 minutes[3]
MugSteals 5 - 15% of cash on hand; base hospital 30 - 45 minutes; reduced respect and experience[3]
HospitaliseBase 3 - 3.5 hours in hospital; least experience[3]
ArrestNeeds a Detective Agency of at least 3 stars[3]

The wiki's experience baseline is leave at 100%, mug at 55-60% and hospitalise at 40%[11]. NPCs are looted immediately, with no Mug or Hospitalise option[12].

Damage, accuracy and stats

  • Strength raises damage, Defense lowers damage taken, Speed raises hit chance, and Dexterity raises dodge[13].
  • There are 14 body parts, and head, throat and heart are critical hits[14]. Community-derived multipliers are 3.5 for those three, 2 for chest, stomach and groin, 1 for arm and leg, and 0.7 for hand and foot. The wiki says these were not confirmed by developers[14].
  • Since the Damage Revamp of 19/10/21, a weapon's displayed damage is the multiplier used in fights. A 50 damage weapon does 5x the damage of 10-damage fists[15].
  • Armour only counts if the hit visibly lands on it[16]. Some armour sets apply bonuses only to the area they cover[17].

Fair fight and respect

Fair fight (FF) ranges from 1x to 3x and depends on the battle stats of both players[18]. Attacking someone with roughly 75% of your total battle stats or higher gives 3x, and the lower the target's stats, the closer FF tends toward 1x[18]. FF was introduced on 10/11/17 with Attacking respect and Chaining 2.0[19].

Restrictions

  • A defeated player stays at zero life until the attacker chooses an outcome. While at zero life they cannot travel, attack or be attacked[20].
  • Players who are actively travelling cannot be attacked. Players in the same country can attack each other[2].
  • One 2026 player guide reports a 15-second attack protection window after landing abroad[21].
