There isn't. The only way to find items now is by clicking the image if/when they spawn on the city map.
obviously if you just found something
You can find items by zooming in to the map and looking around, however it may take a few days for it to initially populate with items.

You pick up the Camel Plushie
I assume so, yes.
It came up as an orange dot. Hovor over it and showed the item name, click it and a box says "You pick up the Camel Plushie"
The dot stayed when I closed the box, I was able to click on it 3 times total before it went away, but it only gave me the item once.
Cool, mine was a small grey box, I also could click on it twice but only got one :)
can we only find items when zoomed in fully?
No I was only zoomed in twice.

Found both in an open field on the west side when zoomed in twice. Both were images to click that looked like the items.
What will happen to the merits used?
will it increase the rate of spawning ?
Apparently it will, although where the person who said this got their info I don't know.
I also found my item in an open field in the west side, directly west of the airport terminal.
