House plans, piping designs, hvac designs, worked for a dock builder as a designer for credit, worked as a packaging designer before going to college. What have you done?
For my engineering project we designed a DRAM based alpha particle detector for home use, think CO monitor but for radon, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer (highest if you exclude stupidity, I mean smoking).
I went for physics but one of the guys that was in engineering did a project where he reverse engineered the xbox controller then made a system that allowed use for xbox for those who were physically disabled. (They were able to have them control it with the few muscles available. )

Currently working on a system to replace all desktop computers in labs across campus using VMwares hypervisor suite...fun stuff :D
Made a platform that you stand on that can be moved in any direction with six degrees of freedom. This was to be used to test the response of the person standing on the platform to measure the degree of debilitation of people with Parkinson's Desease
- A simple microprocessor based on Very Long Instruction Word architecture.
- A remote controlled car, both infra-red, and bluetooth.
- Electronic Stethoscope.
- A bunch of games.
Unfortunately my main project was research based so nothing too exiting there :P
A couple of microprocessors (control unit, ALU, ETC, ETC).
A remote-control automatic turret (with a nerf gun), capable of PTZ through the internet.
A robotic arm programmed in C, with a bluetooth controller to copy the movements of a real arm.
A few AIs, including an AI for unreal tournament (game).
A basic OS written mostly in assembly.
A bunch of games with AI in java, javascript (web), C, racket, prolog, etc.
A few encryption algorithms based on RSA, SHA1, DES, 3DES, etc.
A real time bank-locating application that provided the best route to the nearest bank based on your location and a bunch of other stuff, for android devices (never uploaded it to google play because of a bunch of reasons). It also scraped the locations of banks.
A bunch of electric and electronic projects I can't remember at this moment, but should be lying around somewhere...
Probably a few others I can't recall at the moment.
