Seeing as how soccer is maybe the fifth or sixth most popular sport in the USA, I think we did pretty well, and I don't see Belgium having an easy day of it...

I guess that is why the games are played.

The usa team is very well organized and always has been but they lack star players. The keeper is good and so is clint dempsey but the rest of the team are average. Soccer is the most popular team sport throughout most of the world usa could be a world power if some of their more talented athletes played soccer rather than the other sports in america.

Its a very well paid job as well to be a soccer player im surprised there arent more usa players playing around the world than there are now america is very good at nurturing sporting talent maybe they dont know about the massive money involved?

a decent squad player in the premier league earns £10k + a week. a really good player a lot more than that.

i knew a player who used to play for man utd over 15 years ago he got a knee injury and couldnt play full time anymore so he played in the conference league in england the 5th tier of english football part time and he was earning £900 a week 15 years ago. Training twice a week and playing once a week for £900.

There is lots of money in soccer :P

I agree. The problem is that most American kids are not brought up watching soccer... many kids play it when younger, but usually as a way to be active until they start playing American football, or basketball, or baseball... hockey, lacrosse, swimming, etc., etc. The popularity is growing, but not by leaps and bounds. The world cup is a mere curiosity for most in the USA, and as soon as the USA are out, most Americans will forget about it... sadly.

I agree. The world cup is a mere curiosity for most in the USA, and as soon as the USA are out, most Americans will forget about it... sadly.

Granted there is big money in footbal, but there is also huge money in the more popular American sports which the schools take more of a interest in therefore producing better players.

Unless there is a huge change in American culture they will never produce players of the ability that contries that live football will.

Hoping that Belgium shows what they are really capable off, and not playing the same like in the group phase.
Hope for a Belgium win but also wanne see a great game, preferable with alot of goals.

its fairly even at the moment. belgium have had a lot more attacking play than america though and america are starting to look tired.

It is going to be France and Argentina final. A lot of teams are doing good but France are doing the best by far. Im not to sure about Argentina I think if they put all they have into it they can make the final but if not its Holland

Well done USA as a long time supporter I'm so proud, played with real heart and passion right to the last second. Best World Cup performance since 2002!!!! My native England should take note of how the USA play and learn some serious lessons. before anybody puts the USA down think of the teams that failed to get in the last 16. One question on my mind is that would Donovan have been the icing on the cake for this great US team? Anyway great games, great passion and once again WELL DONE USA!!!!!!!

Our England Team should take a look at how poor they really are.
The last 16 teams have played with such determination, just to fall short against the favorites.
USA were unlucky, was really hoping you'd clinch a win, they put a lot of energy into their game, on the brighter side "Howard sets new World Cup record after making 15 saves for USA against Belgium".

Overall a fantastic game of football. Honest, hard running and end to end. And the late five minute onslaught by the USA, against an exhausted Belgium side, made for a wonderful finish. Sad to see the USA go out but their fitness and commitment only made this a better tournament. In the end it came down to the finishing and that was the only area where the USA were second best.
This ranks along side Germany v Ghana as the best game of the competition.

Say what you will about the US' talent level and such. They play with such heart and passion. They never give in. They don't know they're supposed to lose and "be terrible" because "soccer/football isn't an American sport"

Sorry, but Omar Gonzalez and Matt Besler were solid on defense, or Tim Howard would have had to make 30 stops. The attack was decent on the wings, but the finishing was horrible... too bad Donavon was left at home, or Green wasn't brought in earlier. The midfield is where the problem was... Bradley, though he logged many miles in this cup, was pretty average other than the occasional good ball. His first touch let him down often, and his passing was not dominate enough, but that could be due to the fact that his support group was also lacking.

Playing soccer/football on some coed team for two years isn't really an awe-inspiring curriculum vitae of sporting achievement tbh. Soccer/football is only boring too the uninitiated... but like all things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The USA was not beautiful in this World Cup. They lacked finesse, but they gave a great effort. They logged more miles than any other nation, and they played in a very hard group (not sure it was the group of death as it has been called, but it was tougher than most), which drained them, but they gave it a good try. Hopefully Klinsmann has enough to build on moving forward.

American people are so positive! If that were England, no matter how well we played or how much effort we put in almost everyone from England would say "England are so shit."
