He would know it's me.  He knows nobody else in UK, except his family who recently kicked him out for stealing from them , now hes living with some pikey.

if you are afraid he will find out, the next time he comes over to tell you 'his plans' just call the police when he leaves and give his description and say there is a suspicious guy in the neighborhood.  when they run his info they'll find out who he is.

 afraid? of an experienced violent criminal on the run that didn't have a problem beating up the police?  just think about it ... every ounce of common sense should be telling you that frontal confrontation isn't a solution

Bearing in mind that you might one day have to defend yourself for aiding and abetting him by not having reported any of the above to the police (who may rely on the information you've posted here to prosecute you for having knowledge of his whereabouts & ongoing crimes that you didnt report).

How settled are you in Manchester? If you're renting a flat with a few people you found on the Internet, I'd suggest to look into a new one. Change your phone number. Disappear. Then call the police and be done with it or don't and let them get this guy by themselves. Either way, if you want nothing to do with him- find a way to have nothing to do with him.

Isn't this the plot for Trainspotting? because your "mate" sounds astoundingly like Begbie, it honestly reads exactly like the movie.

Renton (you) does drugs with his mates
Renton's (you) friend Tommy (Harry) dies
Renton (you) gets tired of the drug scene and his mates so moves to London (Manchester) to pursue a career
Renton (you) is living a normal life until Begbie (your "mate") , who is on the run, turns up at his bedsit unannounced and starts talking about his plans to sell heroine

if anyone wants to know how this will all end Renton (Him) agrees to go along with Begbie's (his mates ) drug plans but then rips him off and disappears with the money while Begbie (his mate) sleeps in a hotel room and Renton lives happily ever after while Begbie (his mate) gets arrested for trashing the hotel room and is subsequently charged for his previous crimes too
