Do you think a free merit reset is in order? I for one do. Not only has the HP been reduced so far that merits are not really worth trading for a couple HP points, but Awareness is much less useful to me now since I do not have the time to sit and scan the city all day long looking for items. Both Awareness and Life Points are maxed out so that is 110 merits that have been used but now are not being utilized. Don't get me wrong, change is needed and I am not complaining, but I think the decline in usefulness should be rectified.
Merit Reset?

No. The merit still does the exact same thing it did before - Boost life.
If we didn't get a respect refund when they entirely changed what pertinent does making it practically useless for many then why would we get a merit reset when they haven't changed what the merit bonus does whilst life is still as valuable as ever? (More so now in fact...)
Not sure how you can justify life boosts being less useful when damage is more frequent now, even at extremely high defence levels. We NEED that life more than ever to survive longer in combat.
Lol, it does not do the exact thing as it did before. So getting 100k life is the same as getting 10? Really? It is no where near as valuable, what difference does it make if I have 4,000 life or a little bit more than 4,000 life? not much at all, it is NOT worth all those merits.
Well seeing as before you could do millions of damage in 1 hit, and now you can only do thousands of damage in 1 hit, I would say it does do just as much now as before.

I disagree, while yes in theory it does the same thing it does not have nearly the same effect as it does when I chose to spend the merits. I have also heard mugging merits have been nerfed but cant confirm that
edit- Non issue to me either way, only costs 60m to reset

Yes its not too expensive to reset. It will take me about the same, 1k points. And I will be resetting if we don't get a free merit reset, which I'm sure we won't, so it really doesn't matter much to me either way. But I do think the usefulness had declined dramatically.
I dont want to reset my merits i have spent the merits on the stuff i want in fact i have 20 unspent merits because i cant find anything to spend them on.
Im nearly at 1 billion stats so im thinking of spending a few of them on stats.
To be honest I think the merits on life might be even more valuable now. Ched said the max life without merits (for lvl 100) is 5k right? I have 4387 life at lvl 61.
Seems like at least one of these threads pops up after any major update nowadays. Would it be faux pas for me to start one now for it to go off as soon as the new crime system comes out? I'd like to take some of mine out of mugging and put it toward crimes.
Edit that...I think I actually want to put it toward strength now
And now you can see why I have chosen to not support the new changes, I have refused to spend my hard earned money on this game any longer. And will never spend another dime of real money on this game again. Its changes like these that make the old school, hard core players say "screw you". You know the last time I had a LIFE bar so low? when I was a level 1 noob in this game... over 5 years ago.... I have to agree, that having low life like that is a joke, you might as well cap stats too 1k each and make it impossible to get stronger.... like when you train and only get +0.0002 per train.... now im going back to the shadows to laugh at everyone who subscribes and donates to make ched a richer millionaire than he already is...
KickRocks I don't even care for them all to be reset so I can reallocate them all, just life and awareness. Nor do I start a thread every time an update comes out. I am a game owner/coder myself, I know how shit works. When the dynamic changes on something you spent merits on you should have the option to be able to reset them for free. If they worked like it does currently when I upgraded them, I would NOT have spent those merits on those 2 upgrades.
Merits should be reset for huge updates period. Or at the very least the cost should be lowered back down to 500 points to reset.
The Doc has spoken.
The life merit upgrades are still definitely worth it - if anything even more so than in the old attacking system imo because you're taking "minor" damage on a lot more attacks now. I'd be happy with a free merit reset as much as the next guy, but the justification you're putting forward for one re: the life upgrade being useless doesn't match up with what I'm seeing at my end.
Edit: For the record my current tab for resetting merits is set at 1500 points so I'd benefit from a reset as much as the next guy
I also agree that for the major changes merits should be reset (and I'd like to see everyone's cost be reset to the minimum 250 points tbh) so that we can experiment with the new setups, but for me that should happen down the track once the full raft of changes to attacking (and drugs / warring?) have been made.
It'd be irksome to get a free reset now and allocate all of your merits differently based on the limited view of Attacking 2.0 that we have now just to find out that you'd be better off with a different distribution of upgrades again once the full set of updates wrt attacking have been rolled out.
I have 9/10 merits on this and totally agree. Life merits needs to be revisited for sure.

You obviously haven't done any attacking today. lol
Given that the base life at my level looks to be around 3,500-ish the 10/10 upgrades on life give me an extra 1750 life or thereabouts, which might not seem much but considering I was sitting around or below 2000 life after most of my hits (taking on moderately strong players for the most part) and sometimes dropping down to 1K life against the stronger ones I'd say that the extra life upgrade was *very* handy.

We can debate about the usefulness of any given merit upgrade on other threads. The fact remains that these major updates do make many merit upgrades less and/or more useful.
My opinion is that after Torn 2.0 is released completely , drugs 2.0 , (I also wish for education 3.0) , crimes 2.0 , warring 2.0 etc etc , ONE OPTIONAL merit reset should be made available to us for a month or so.
I have 10/10 on life and I would probably still make it 7/10 or more after reset. I have actually distributed my merits such that I get benefits everywhere i want to ( 4/10 on passive stat boost , 4/10 on clubs and rifles and nerve bar, 7/10 on crit and awareness , 8/10 on bank , 5/10 on crime exp and 1/10 on everything else). Now the only question for me is specialization , like if I want to mug a lot , I would invest more there.
But for the time being I don't really "need" a reset but I do "want" one after torn 2.0
Or perhaps after merits 3.0 , a merit reset for all, who knows?

I agree that merits should be reset, seeing as life is not as good, the old system where 60% was a massive advantage, in this system even at my level it's only 2.5k hp... the whole idea of the system was to remove one hit ko'd and yet i can still be 1hit and can also 1 hit people, more so than i could in the old system...

As a player who has tirelessly made forty million in the entire span of my relatively short Torn career (only played actively for a month or so; most of my age is afk), this makes me cry a little inside. ;_;

I personally don't think it should be focused on merits should be reset cuz of the life points.....I think that merits should just be reset anytime they make these major changes....
Merits are/were valuable....you earned them and CHOSE to use them on certain things (and if you were smart you used them wisely) based on the things that you did in the game. For example some people would use the awareness boosts but it was worth it cuz going into the city you could randomly find things....but now that you have to sit and search for 5-10 mins at a time if you ever hope to find anything then only people who have a lot of time to sit here on the game for hours on end may find that useful...but those who have spent 20 merits on it who don't have that kind of time would feel those were now wasted or felt cheated....same thing goes with the life points or now the passive bonus things with the new attacking system....
If torn wants to keep changing things then they should reset merits so people have the option to redo their merits based on the changes and things they will no longer use or that may be more useful to them....just my opinion
