Newspaper

Following a recent discussion with a few users, I would like to create a space where any user can contribute ideas to the newspaper. That way, hopefully the small team that create the articles can continue to improve the quality of the content, and deliver something that is increasingly relevant and perhaps even entertaining to as many Torn users as possible. I would eventually like to maybe see a dedicated area of the forums alongside "Attacking", "Stock Market", "Properties", "Gambling" etc where people can easily go to find this space.

I think that as just a floating topic, the thread will get buried under new content. I meant that hopefully if this thread gets some good discussion going, it would demonstrate that enough people care about the newspaper for it to have its own designated area on the forums perhaps. And in the meantime I can genuinely try to implement whatever gets discussed / suggested too.

He means if anyone wants to put forward an article, or put forward any ideas for articles to be based on.
Currently there are only 3-4 (volunteer) Reporters, so getting good content from them constantly is a lot to ask.

The discussion that is mentioned is suggesting that the newspaper be changed in the way it works, so that the general public should be able to submit articles (reinstating the merit that comes with having an article approved) while the current Reporters' roles are renamed to Editors. Editors should then have access to a control panel (only accessible by Editors & Admins) where they can view submissions and accept articles giving them only minor edits such as punctuation, grammar and spelling.

Editors should also be allowed to submit their own articles, a privilege which I believe should stay as they are giving their free time up for this position.

To avoid people spamming submissions, Editors should then be able to block people from submitting who they feel are spamming. Blocked users should be put on a Blocked list, which can only be modified by Editors & Admins.

This thread is to do essentially this in an unofficial way; (which R+ by the way, great initiative shown here) to get better content in the newspaper for people to read.

they have the reporters for a reason, so 16k people arent sending in shit articles to the paper that noone has time to review.. the paper is just basically there for ads, the articles are just to make it look like a paper, any good and pertinent info is in the forum, we DO NOT NEED to expand the paper any further.

want to read good stuff then look in the forum, want a few powder puff articles. or to find you a nice manwife then thats what paper is for.

since the OP is a reporter himself, i think maybe since he even thinks the paper is shit he should work on his articles instead of trying to expand something 96.3% of torn doesnt look at anyway

me for example. i dont read torn newspaper. except for catchy and interesting topic..

Honestly never read the newspaper.


These days too many people get bored after reading a paragraph!

That's my point, if there were more catchy and interesting topics it might actually pick up.

@UnknownElement - it wouldn't be anything like before as before there were no dedicated people to the newspaper, just the admins who updated as and when they felt like...

and you call the ones now dedicated when they trying to get regular users to do their job for them. there is 15 or so reporters, plenty enough without having the rest of torn contributing garbage articles. its only been 6 months since respo and people worrying bout changing something no one reads anyhow. probably no more then 20 people in torn who arent reporters regularly read the paper for the articles.

If you don't care about the newspaper, why are you posting about it?
Although you may not be one of them, there are a group of people who would read the newspaper if there were interesting, relevant or torn role play scenarios in the paper.

So if you think it's as unimportant as you say it is, kindly get out of this thread

This is a thread about the newspaper and he is posting about the newspaper, I don't exactly see why he should have to get out of the thread.

And besides he is correct, there is a very small amount of players that actively read the newspaper!

i been around almost 8 years, even when the newspaper had great articles it was barely read. you say role play? are you serious, there is a whole subforum for that. why would we need it in the paper also. As said the paper is and always has been just filler for the ads, bounties and other sections. No one was making a big fuss when no one was doing any articles before respo and everyone was given a chance to apply to be a reporter. Now after the fact 2 or 3 people want to change it(most likely cause they want a merit).

Just cause i dont support your delusions of grandeour to have an article in the paper does not make my opinion any less valid. If you were so concerned about it maybe you should of applied when they were looking for reporters instead of whining 6 months later.

btw ill post all i want to in here kid. now get over your newspaper butthurt, its not gonna change.

so your saying they should change it cause 5 or 10 people want something to read? how bout you put it in suggestions and see how people feel, wait you did, not much of a uproar bout it there.

im actually enjoying reading the newspaper of late some good articles in it reading the history of some factions and how they were founded and merged etc

I'm still waiting for one of the many "interviews" I have been asked for over the years to be published...

My mum would be so proud, a newspaper story without mentioning those murders...

I don't think the paper is shit, I do think it could be better. Each article published has led to the author getting on average maybe 10-15 messages with opinions and thanks. I know that's not massive, but obviously only a small percentage of people are going to take the time to write a message etc. I'd like to see that number grow as hopefully the paper evolves into something that more and more people engage with. Or read.

And obviously people care because there seems to be some passion, especially from some people who feel left out. So again, I say, until there is an official update / change to the way articles are created, feel free to contribute any ideas for a story or article here. I don't necessarily need any ideas or inspiration, I've a few more articles queued up for publishing, and a few more ideas for more new ones. I enjoy it a lot. I can see that other people would enjoy it too, and am merely reaching out to include and involve those who want it.
