Not really understanding how people don't see the ridiculousness of this competition. It's biased toward higher levels from the outset, holding tags worth more points, players who are then more able to take other tags off of other nublets.

That being said, people in this thread have a point. Put in a tiny bit of effort with flying and making sure you find inactives/actives who are tag hunting, and the 250 merit is more than attainable. 15 per day is all you need. Also, considering a lot of people have given up already, even if you get 250 tags worth 5 points each, you're almost guaranteed to get at least 8 tokens.

Probably because it's not that ridiculous. The only valid criticism made so far is the one you just posted, about higher levels getting higher point values assigned to their tag.

But even then, that encourages people to target higher levels over lower levels if they want a better chance at winning, leveling out that perceived imbalance. And a high level doesn't mean high stats, so those higher valued tags are not unattainable.

Im talking from experience dipshit im not talking about you or other people so youve been wrong youve been twisting my words and stay here if you want internet warrior
Venomous [1805486]

See i make a topic about dog tags and you change the topic to me just proves how wrong you are
Since your chance of finding dog tags decrease with each attack it means that you have the most chance in the first try
Leafeh [467479]

Yes, most chance, but not a 100% chance.

You literally just said you're basing everything off of your own experiences. If anyone is making the thread about you, it's, well, you!

There's a really simple way to make this comp good and fair, add a cooldown on how often you can have a tag mugged, i've been mugged a fair bit lost all my tag i gained from last night so i'm pretty much done with the comp over all.

add a few hour cooldown on how often you can have it stolen similar to how often you can be mugged then it would be pretty okay.
Leafeh [467479]

Cooldowns would be a flawed introduction. They'd provide a protective barrier to those with many dogtags as well as those with few, creating a stagnant situation where eventually the difference in peoples amounts of dog tags will level out and barely change at all, especially within the frontrunners in the competition.

That would actually make it even more unfair.

The only addition in the interest of fairness and competition I can think of that would actually work, is display how many dog tags/score every person has. This would cause everyone to target whoever has the most dogtags in order to bring them down from the #1 spot.

Of course it's not fair, what a stupid question, weak people and high profile people have no chance. You know what else isn't fair? Everything else in Torn, you claw your way up in this city!
Grif [882958]

aparently there is a cooldown to some degree, or at least dimishing returns, where the % chance decreases according to the announcement

1. the two competitions are apples and oranges. you were able to run and hide to achieve that 'win'. wont work in this comp.
2. just because someone considers getting a merit in a comp a 'win' doesn't make it so. furthermore I doubt that was what the OP was referring to as far as this comp is concerned. the 'win' in this comp is clearly defined.
3. players can really really, even REALLY REALLY, want to win this comp and wont. changing their sleep patterns etc etc. will not win them the 1st place prize without the stats.

personally I am not bothered by it. ive come to terms with what Torn is long ago. however im not going to sugar coat some bs to make the unattainable sound possible either. every strategy you have described can be done with players with higher stats, who start with higher value tags, who are very unlikely to lose them to someone much lower level or stats. period. even if 20 lowbies teamed up to attempt to take out the big hitters they will still likely fail and even if they don't they wont all be rewarded for the effort.

its good to encourage the newer players, its bad to lie to them.

Is the competition fair? No, not really.
Is it more fair than the old dog tag system? Yes.

I don't know about you but I prefer this fighting chance over the gimmick from years ago.

You should consider yourself lucky that we aren't losing all the tags we've earning in one attack as that is the way it used to be many, many year ago.

I have to agree with Mat here... Another thing I am confused about is that unless I misunderstood him I thought Ched said that if you attack and leave, mug or hospitalize you stand a chance of getting one tag... but I have heard several players say they lost all their tags with one mug... To me the 1 tag per attack would make for funner competition... Not that I would have any right now... As I said earlier I have been attacked 8 times today... Yesterday I flew to the Cayman's over and over then to Canada but lost my tag getting mugged while I took a break to fix dinner... The other 8 mugs happened while I was asleep... I might steal more tags but they might just get stolen by someone else... I do know that if you get targeted several times there is less a chance they will get a tag... but I have to agree... One tag at a time would have been fairer IMHO...
Leafeh [467479]

Well, then it's a good thing I'm not lying to them.

Survivor honour was probably the most difficult reward to obtain from that competition. So it was the closest thing to a 'win' there was. Which no one with a defeatist attitude was going to get.

People told me what I was aiming for was unattainable. That was the 'bs'.

Tolshortte [648554]

im sure you realize this thread is about this competition. im sure you realize that the tactics you employed to 'win' in that comp wont = a 'win' in this comp. so why do you keep bringing it up? is it supposed to refute the claims ive made about this comp? because clearly it doesn't.

so yes, you are lying about their possibilities of a 'win' in this competition unless you lower your standard to what can only equate to a 'win' on a personal basis which I already said was all that was attainable for them to begin with.

Consequences2 [1948505]

. KIA and Departure honors are achieved by attaining 50 and 250 dog tags at any point during the competition.

Does that mean "attaining 50 dog tags with 49 in posession at the time" or just attaining 50 dog tags in total?
xMrPink [221113]

If a new/weak/young player doesn't count the potential 4 merits for 10 tokens + 250 dog tags at the end a win, they need a reality check.

Such luxuries as winning this competition are to be earned, not just given out to spoon-feds.

Of course a 10 year veteran has the upper hand. What would be the point in someone who dedicated loads of time to the game being brought down to accommodate noobs. The winners will have earned their position over years of grind, not just a few weeks when they can be bothered.
Tolshortte [648554]

and there you have it OP. everything ive said validated in a single post.

xMrPink ive never argued against what you are saying. you may have to go back and read my posts, but you simply validated what I stated earlier. thanks.
