nerds want your things. there are many many many nerds in this game. they will be pretend to be your friend for weeks/months so they can get their hands on your oil rig. dont feed the nerds.
how many companys can a player own
A player can only own or work for one company at a time.
The system limits you to running one company (Being a director of a company), or being employeed by one company at a time. However, there a loads of players who allow friends to run companies for them....there is a certain amount of trust for this to work though.
This, I have several. None actually profit though which is starting to make me question my life decisions.

You can run one company at any given time, but in theory every person you trust can run another company for you.
But be careful of who you trust... I had a friend who trusted someone to run a T.V. station for him and the guy ended up gambling away all my friends profit... He told me he lost literally billions...
As many as you want. But only one at a time.
It wasn't by coincidence t-rex 's company and the friend wasn't rich ? xD

Apart from that, the question has been answered.
As we have discussed before. A oil rig is for life. Not just for christmas.
If you want to own a oil rig do it yourself, if you give it to a 'friend' then there may be problems. Abuse to the oil rig.
The oil rig could burn down when your 'friend' becomes inactive or sells it and blows it all on the bookie.
An oil rig is for life not just for christmas. Take care of him yourself. Walk him everyday, water him and feed him.
Dont give him to someone who will neglect him.
A bad person will take him from you, click ignore on you and do whatever he wants with your oil rig.
Think.

Heed this warning ^^^ It happened to me once when a spotty faced nerd pretended to be my friend for a year then stole my island... BEWARE of nerds with spots...

It sounds like you have your oil rig scammed from you and you need somewhere in the forums to cry about it :) x
I have never had a oil rig and i dont want one. It just seems to be a very popular thing in this game :P
Play money attracts nerds the good nerds who want to build a empire with their tc play money and the bad nerds who want to target you and take your stuff so they can play the bookie :P
So many spots. On so many nerds :P
They ease their suffering by scamming to play the casino or to get more stuff to make themselves feel a bit better before they have to look in the mirror everyday :P
there are suggestions in the suggestions to be able to be director of more than 1 company at a time
thankfully they always get more hate than likes
