In the past few years I have lost interest in console gaming, maybe it is just the huge difference in them from the previous generation.

But recently I have been contemplating buying a PS4, now I am not sure why as I have always be an XBox fan.

Could someone please make some suggestions and give me their opinion.

Also, someone told me that your have to pay for the online ability on PS4s, is this true?

I enjoy console gaming, the Xbox One and PS4 are pretty good consoles as well. Atm though I say fk all and I'm buying a gaming computer lol.

Also, apparently the Xbox One is pretty good with games, but it's better for Netflix and such. While the PS4 is the best of gaming of the two, but not as good with Netflix and TV. I don't see much of a difference between the gaming quality of the 2 so I also bought an Xbox One.

Wait a little while longer and your PS4 may go down in price going into holiday season. At least that is what Microsoft is predicting

I have a PS4. Some games can be played online for free. Some games require you to have a subscription to PSN. It's about £5 a month and you can get a few free games included in that price, so I think it's quite fair.

I've never had any problems with the console itself. The way I play games definitely does not warrant a gaming PC. I play for 30mins to an hour most days and so a playstation suits me.

I've never been a fan of xbox. I had an xbox 360 and regretted not having a PS3. There's not much reasoning behind this though- just subjective things like I like the design of the controller more. I couldn't give less of a f**k about performance.

Thank you for all the information, not looking for something serious in gaming, was hoping to just play the hell out of GTA and Far Cry 4.

If you have friends who already have a console pick that one.

PS4 has more users, so online should be better at finding matches. (Haven't really had a problem though on xbox finding one though)
Xbox has better connection/reliability as far as I know.

Visuals there is little difference between the two, noticeable only really when compared next to each other (PS4 better)
Xbox is more of an all/everything in one so is better at multiple use, e.g. TV, movies, internet.

I have a PS4, I love it personally, but the download speeds are pretty bad, sony always cheap out on ethernet cards, if you have a wired connection avilable I couldnt recommend it more!

Xbone is my console of choice. Playstation 2 was pretty awesome, if only for the exclusives.

As Cathead said there's some free, some subscription on PSN. Xbone has the Gold fee (like $10AUD/month or something) which includes a free game to download every fortnight (I nabbed Assassin's Creed: Black Flag from it, was pretty stoked).

Xbone is a little finicky at first but after you get used to it it's a nice console, not great but certainly nothing to slam, it has Backwards Compatability (either Coming Soon Ched-style or already released for a small number of games) and a convenient multi-tasking feature as seen in this video I made a few months ago:

Dunno if the PS4 has that but I thought it was pretty f**king neato
