Do employees get paid automatically or do I have to do something?
You need to set their salary in the employees tab then it is done automatically

Why bump? The question has been answered.
Employees are paid automatically. Their wages come directly from the company funds. You MUST have the funds available in the company funds each day so that the employees can be paid and also all expenses can be paid too (Advertsing and if you use trains/day, money for those too).
Always keep some money in the company funds so you never run out of money.
