I wanna preface this by saying I'm no expert in how wikis work so if I've missed something please excuse my ignorance... but having made more than a few minor edits to the wiki in the past I've never come across this so find it a bit strange...

But... Yesterday I made a couple of edits to http://www.torn.com/wiki/Other_Items

These changes were for the business class ticket and casino pass as the current information there was either out of date or missing.

Those edits can be seen here http://www.torn.com/wiki/index.php?title=Other_Items&curid=355&diff=4799&oldid=4798 and http://www.torn.com/wiki/index.php?title=Other_Items&curid=355&diff=4798&oldid=4676

No other changes have been made since to those pages or the wiki itself...

However when I go back to http://www.torn.com/wiki/Other_Items I fail to see any of these changes, only the previous version of the page...

If I go back to edit it again those changes are actually on the edit screen... So er... what do I do here to actually get these changes to appear on the main page? Short of deleting the entire page and starting again with the new edits in place... Anyone able to help?

Ok, was just pointed out to me that these edits need to be approved now

"This is the approved revision of this page; it is not the most recent. View most recent revision."

I'd missed that... any chance a wiki admin can approve this? Seems rather frustrating that we can't easily make changes anymore... I aint as cool apparently as Beerstein or Callum to have been given these powers :( Any chance someone can approve this I guess then? Or better yet let us do it ourselves? xP

The Wiki itself has bigger issues than no admins at this time, you can't make new accounts, and everyone appears to be slaved to the same blank IP address.

Your point is irrelevant, why would that invalidate my report?

Your account is old enough to already have an account anyway, your log in credentials would be your ID and likely a pre-2011 password if you've changed regularly.

Lol...this.

I agree with OP. If the Torn wiki continues to remain outdated. Then we no longer have a reliable source of information to refer new players to, thus leading to use oldies having to orally (well type) shaped what ever know I we have with them, having to repeatedly answer the same questions and so on.

Slowly but surely we will lose interest in doing so and thus leaving the newbies uneducated. And well probably bounty them for asking newbie questions we've probably heard a thousand times. Example how do I make money? What is LSD? What does a fraction (faction) do? Etc...there are whose questions out there

I worked on the regular Wikipedia and a number of other Wikis over the years, getting the changes validated is great, but the bigger issues with getting new accounts set up is a serious issue. What you're doing is the equivalent of asking for a piece of tape to plug a leak, when you should be at least trying to get the leak filled with cement.

Usually when something like that breaks it means there are underlying issues with the meta wiki templates, and when those go the entire Wiki can simply crash, things can stop showing up and so on.

So sure, getting those updates approved would be helpful, but what would be greater would be getting some active admins who would go through and make sure everything is still working, update the system to allow new users to register and such.

It appears that it is linked to the username, you are correct, but it isn't an actual Wiki account, just an extension of your Torn account.

I've never seen another Wiki do anything like that, I can't see any benefit to doing it outside of maybe saving a little space on a server somewhere?

At the very least, given that this is a pretty different way of doing things, there should be a notice or FAQ somewhere that explains that is how they let people access the Wiki. Otherwise the lack of a way to sign up or any knowledge outside of someone who has used the Wiki before is a bit of a pain.

If anything linking your Torn account to the IRC would be better than the Wiki account. Not many people are going to go to the trouble of making fake accounts to put junk on a Wiki with how good bots and rollback has become, and that is the only reason I could see that this particular feature was used to begin with.

Fixed.

Can you make an edit to the page and let me know if it immediately uploads. I've made some changes and it should.
