Is there anything that someone has an idea for but not capable of creating and could share there ideas for experienced developers too create but credit will have too be given on the tool!

just a thought for those who have ideas

I've had someone ask me about a simple tool that would keep an updated "current market price" for a few different classes of Torn items. First would be items available for purchase in the City: from Beers at Bob's to medical items to Aston Martin's at the Docks, and everything in between. Another example of an Item Class would be Imports: everything available for purchase overseas.

The tool would then display the purchase price along with the "current market price" and allow sorting by potential profit. I don't think availability would be possible to check with the API (correct me if I'm wrong), so that would be up to the user to identify what's the best item available at the time.

The goal here is not necessarily just to find hot items ... but to help compare everything and show the Torn economy to newer players.

Here's an example of what I've done manually via spreadsheet (been a while since I updated it), and this tool would just automate the process of filling in the "Market" column.

So I figured I'd mess around with this. I created a Google Spreadsheet and followed your instructions in your other thread to create the script and enable the =ImportJSON function. This is working, I can get my Name and Rank like you did. So reading down that thread, my next step may be to have another sheet where the necessary calls are made, and my main sheet would reference that data so it could be sorted and displayed "prettily".

But ... I can't figure out how to not make a call for every cell, if I want to get actual current prices (I'd probably grab the top 3 and average them, or whatever). I could get Torn's RRP value for each item, but that's not as current as I had imagined. Seems like others in your thread were running into the same issue. This was over a month ago when you last posted there though, is there any hope for my basic GSheet attempt?

It's a neat system. However, Google spreadsheets aren't really... effective, if you ask me. I personally have an IRC bot setup that helps flower/drug/somethingelse runners check stock - it uses Travelrun for this. However, adding a !price command, or something of the like, allows also for a !bestbuy, i.e. which would provide the most profit per unit.

All in all, very interesting. I might look into incorporating this and completely stealing your idea. If you don't mind, that is. :P

I also use an IRC bot that analyzes Travelrun data and shows profit per item/trip, recommends destinations based on stock and potential profit, and even tries to predict future stock using past trends. I'm just a user though... This spreadsheet was an attempt to visualize it a bit, maybe make it more accessible.
