Bounties are great, but would be good to maybe implement something like it costing a bit more every time you place one per day, or the more a player already has etc.
Not to make people get bountied less (who cares...) more to take money out of the game and make it more challenging. It's a bit dumb how little it costs someone to bounty a level 10 or whatever, if they want to.
Could be balanced by making it easier to place heaps of bounties on someone (currently has to be done manually each time?)

Or a completely revised system where you go to a 'bounty hunter' board/screen, and it picks you out some 'most wanted' people to go after, maybe within your age or level range, would be awesome. With a system like that you wouldn't place a specific one-time bounty, you would just put as much as you want on a player (added together with whatever other players put in), and if it gets high enough (eg higher than the other bounties) it would go on the bounty hunter board. Maybe the highest 5 bounties at a time, but whatever balances out nicely. When you claim a bounty you collect a % of the money that's on them (so not necessarily all at once). This would make it so that although you can bounty noobs, you'd still have to put a decent amount on them to have them pop up first on the bounty hunter board, and the bounty hunter board could theoretically always have bounties available, just not for very much $ at times. Also easier (but more expensive, especially if other people are competing in bounty to keep someone up on the voard) to keep someone in hosp long-term if you're happy to pay the money.
ANYWAY...

tldr: the system could be better, but the solution isn't to tack protection onto this one :)

It definitely needs to be changed or something. The power given to the older players is not good. I quit before because of this. I somehow found torn again. Even if I log on to train everyday i have zero desire to pay for this knowing I could be permanently put in this position. And to think if I was just beginning.

Stop protecting noobs. They run their mouths then they get bounties. I never bounty new players unless they provoke it. Once again, stop giving new players more and more, let them earn it. Bounties build character or fix character flaws for these noobs

I agree, a lot of them deserve it

however, for the players who are bountied for weeks at a time, without any means of fighting back, that seems a touch harsh

The only thing I think should be changed about it is. When you go to buy a bounty off of someone. It should cost 10x the amount to buy off, instead of 3x.

nubs dont really matter much. If their low level & your only putting the minimum amount on them. Its not very attractive for someone to claim it. Unless its another nub. So worst case scenario they have to fight someone on their playing field & maybe get a few defends.

Me personally I won't even bother with collecting a bounty unless its 500k or more. & even then I'm not pressed about trying to collect em unless there at 1m or slightly lower. Unless im just super bored & got some E to burn.

You do understand that your way of playing is not adepted by everyone and you are aware of the fact that there are other players that randomly bountie new players for months and months just because they can and/or they find it amusing to thrive away people from the game?

Do you really think that's good for the game in general and that it attracts new players?
If it is a characterflaw that you want to play a game then we have different opinions about characterflaws.
Imo users that are just randomly placing bounties on new players for their own entertainment are doing more damage then good for the game. And the characterflaw is on their side.
CaptainObvious [1019122]

face it, bounties in large numbers do work.

if someone has done something to deserve a week or two of bounties, they'll get them. If they mail me complaining, i'll give them more. If they mail saying they don't care and they're enjoying it, they'll get a lot more.

However, if they don't complain, sooner or later I get bored and stop, or forget to add more.

see them doing the same shit again.... pile on the bounties until they learn.

See Captainobvious has it right. That's the way to use bounties! With fervor until the person you're bountying either stops being annoying enough to be forgotten.

They deserve it, eg: Wenlock owes me $2,000,000,000

If anything the only change that's needed is for a "How many bounites to you want to place" QTY field to be added to make it easier for me.

I agree with this, because at one point one of my EMPLOYEES did something to piss someone off, and not only did they bounty him, but they bountied me AND everyone in my company. THAT shouldn't happen. I get bounties for when someone does something wrong, but when someone else does something, nobody other than them should get punished.
_Cynic_ [206537]

I have the perfect compromise here!

We make it so newer players cannot message anyone or post in forums or on chat.

That way they can't annoy anyone so as to have lots of bounties put on them!
All the new players can thank me once you are old enough to be able to message for saving you from your bounty hell!

When they mail you saying they dont care that is the jackpot :P

You know you have upset them :P

If you dont care you wouldnt go through the effort of sending the mail in the first place :P

I havent placed a lot of bounties but sometimes when i do they result in temper tantrums of apocalyptic proportions.

Massive temper tantrums with toys being thrown out of prams and getting themselves banned from the game. When bounties where new that was where the fun was at :P

Now anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together know they are no big deal. Fortunately if you like whining a lot of people who play this game only have 1 brain cell.

This actually could help. Make a "New players" forum, like the donator one, and then have them keep to themselves. Restrict global to just older players, after the new players chat goes away, and then let them go into global.
Daedelus [592914]

With the exception of the usual whiners, beggars and asshats, I've never understood the purpose of relentlessly placing one bounty after another on someone. Is it just a case of the joy of preying on the weak or is there some mystical merit involved...
I have a picture of a thirteen year old outcast desperately grasping for revenge. So much time spent trapped in the school lockers... =P
dunmugmeh [538353]

I usually dont do anything.
Sometimes i have a little argument with someone and bounty them 10 times and that is it done forever as far as im concerned.
If they decide to take it further then thats up to them a little fight is a little fight 10 bounties is nothing.
If i bounty someone 10 times i would rather they learn their lesson talking about it is of no consequence.
I dont bounty a lot of people look at my stats.
Its just a little thing i occassionaly use to make my point. If you place bounties none stop for no reason it kind of loses its effect after a bit. ie they look at your stats and see that you bounty everyone.

When i bounty someone they really deserve to be bountied.

I normally just click ignore before the whining and bleating has time to start and just forget about them.

I think it is funny that so many use bounties and that so many are offended by them. Yes it's frustrating to have to deal with new people who don't know the rules you think they should...those people think it is just as frustrating dealing with spiteful people who have already gained the knowledge that helps them navigate the game in a way that does not offend so many. In real life you either learn to deal with frustration or you implode and are miserable. Sometimes I wonder if those same people are not the ones placing tens of thousands of bounties because in some teeny tiny way it makes them feel as if they have some control on something...sigh... it's just wasted money for the most part. Med out.. do what you need to, and then get hit again... it's not that tough. it's even better when you have a friend or two willing to help you clear bounties and you cost the person bountying you millions because you just keep clearing them. It's even sweeter when you become big enough to beat up the person setting up the bounty. Cheers to you Mr and Mrs S!
