Why not enforce https URL ?
Nowadays almost everty website that requires authentication are in https. It is more secure, againt credential theft.
What do you think about it ?

you have the option, why isn't that good enough?
why force people onto https?
EDIT: some user scripts can't work with HTTPS, so i can't agree with this one
I can't get behind this, there's a lot of glitches for HTTPS sometimes for me, and i'm sure other people as well. Honestly, the option is the best it can be.
What about add a setting in preferences ? So people who wanna get always in https no matter what just have to enable this option.
Honestly it just takes a single mouseclick and a single key-press to add the 's' on your URL. And if you bookmark it, every time you open it'll open in HTTPS. Why is there a need to get that in preference when you can do it SO EASILY?

If we prefer HTTPS we can always use an extension for it.
HTTPS Everywhere - It's available for FF, Chrome, Opera, and Android.. =)
It is an issue for scripts so for that reason alone no.
it's a user issue, if you want HTTPS the option is there and as pointed out can be forced via extensions. There's no reason for ched to do anything.
This extension has two issues:
- Memory leakage
- It breaks some sites
