just a few thoughts...first..races are totally pre-determined..your driver skill goes up before the race starts...and..if you start a race, and then turn off your wifi, the race will continue and the outcome will be the same...trust me i have tested this..

second..how is two islands a dirt track??it is 95% tarmac..so how come you come in last if you have a tarmac car??and how come you win on this track with a 100% dirt track car??i can understand it a little bit more on the parkland track..the dirt portion is a bit more pronounce..

The guys who program the cars obviously refuse to reduce the effectiveness of the nsx..so how about adding another car...maybe a car that has a handling of 47 or 48..racing is getting a little stale..i am sure everybody that is a serious racer has enough points to build a new car if it was made an option..

I will point another issue. I took a Vauxhall Astra GSI and made 5 improvements on it. Each and every one was showing an acceleration improvement if bought. After putting 5 acceleration improvements on it, it went from 8.8 to 8.7.

Sorry but that is ridiculous. How can 5 improvements give only 0.1? If you took that to a mechanic and let him put 5 improvements to improve your acceleration and he managed to only make your car 0.1 better then you'll your damn money back and call him the bigger incompetent ever.
The green little line is quite long on acceleration improvement but the number shows nothing.

This things need to be worked out.

ever wondered why lexus is much better than ferrari on speedway, despite both having same top speed?

torn isn't a racing game. racing was just meant to be a side addition, something people did for fun. those numbers are just suggestive, they mean little.

it's the bars that matter

Hi guys as you can see i look at the forums a lot, A LOT.

Years ago probably on the old forums i remember ched i think posting that racing is exactly the same as it was before the graphics where put into the game.

so there is no live aspect to the racing when you watch a race its just a way of looking at the already pre determined result of the race.

im sorry if this has shattered anyones illusions about the racing but what i say is true.

It's clearly determined at the start of the race. Once a race starts, if you click on another Torn page and hover your mouse over the racing icon, it will tell you exactly how long until your race ends.

Since there isn't any way for us to interact with a race once it starts, that makes sense. It makes things a lot easier from a programming point of view to generate everything related to the race one time and be done with it. If we had some way to interact (where we're hitting a key to "accelerate" or hitting a key to "brake" or whatever) then the server would need to maintain a connection with every driver in the race the entire time. It wouldn't just need to talk to your computer to get your input and adjust the race, but also to tell your computer how the other drivers have done, where there cars are. Generating that all at once saves a lot of work.

That's also related to why you can continue to race if you get jailed, or hospitalized, because the race isn't being updated in real time.

And honestly, If we had to interact with the races, I'd race a lot less. Right now I'm in a 100 lap race. It'll take 5 hours. I guarantee I wouldn't sit at my computer, controlling my little race car, for 5 hours. The fact that I can start that race and then spend my time on other things encourages me to do it. I often do that when I am going to be asleep, or at work, and don't have time to do a lot of interaction with Torn.

Like Nitro said, Torn isn't a racing game.

And I think similar arguments can be made about everything in Torn. People that run a company don't have to control every aspect. People that work in jobs don't actually have to do anything other than log in once every day or two. Crimes take 2 or 3 clicks, then a digital dice roll is made, and you're told you succeeded or you failed. Thousands of people are busted out of jail every day, and little thought or effort goes into doing it. The number of warehouses built each day must be huge considering how many warehouses get burned down on a daily basis. Almost everyone has their own PI, which suggests that the Gulf of Mexico has thousands and thousands of beautiful tropical islands just off the cost of Torn City.

If you expect Torn to be realistic, you're going to be disappointed. It's not going to happen, because it's a game.

I understand both sides of this matter. Yes racing like other torn activities are far from simullating. Think that if we racers wanted to drive virtual cars, we would chose a difrent game. But one thing you have in Torn racing that you cant find in other games is the relation betwen race, companies, cash, game activity, etc...

I understand though, that there could be a new car now and then, a new upgrade a new track, even I think the favorit cars in certain traks could be fixed or make it better. Who knows a driver ranking...well hope the programers dont forget about us, cause racing is probably what I like most about Torn.
