Forum Dictionary

So, maybe this has been suggested before and maybe this can't be implemented but its something I've thought about for some time. Just go ahead and shoot me down if you find this to be dumb idea, but I think it would really help a lot of players in a tiny, almost insignificant manner.

So I frequent a Warhammer forum called Dakkadakk(link here if anyone is a fellow hobbyist) and on it, they have a built-in dictionary for all the abbreviations that are used on the forum as well as in general for anyone who's first language isn't English. It's a lot more convenient than having to quoute and ask or google whenever you see an abbreviation you don't recognize. You simply hover your mouse over it and if it has been added to the forum dictionary a small box appears giving all the possible answers.

My suggestion is as simple as doing the same for Torn. I just feel it would be convenient and comfortable, instead of having to ask everytime you don't know or forget.

So, as an example, you are reading a post and someone says something about a DB(dirty bomb, in chase anyone was wondering). Hovering your mouse over the abbreviation - which are colored if they exist in the dictionary - would reveal a box looking something like this:

Torn: Dirty Bomb General: Database

And thus elminating the problem of new players or players that are new to the forums noobing out and having to constantly ask what this or that means. You could even save the dev's trouble by making the dictionary community based, as in anyone can add an abbreviation to some sort of base and if it gets an X number of 'Yes' votes or something it automatically gets added to the dictionary.

Of course, the translations would be confined to Torn related and General, the dirty bomb was maybe not the best example but hopefully you all get the point.

Is there anyone who would find this at least remotely helpful? I don't know how common this in other forums as I haven't used this one a lot, and the only other one I use beside it is the one I linked above.

As I said, the dictionary on my hobby forum also has the 'general' category for anyone whose first language isn't English. Also, we may not have that many right now that are Torn related, but we might get more and more with future updates and it would certainly be better to start right away than to have a swarm to clarify later on.

And I didn't mean a thread that contains all the words, I ment inergrating it into the game.
I get that it might not seem necessary, and it certaintly isn't, it just adds a level of comfort when browsing the forums. :)

And more functional things, like OC's and stuff of the like.

there's a hella lot of abbreviations i would use this on. can this please be a thing.

i dont think he realises all the reference material / tuts/guides/ wiki etc are all player made

You didn't read my suggestion all the way through, did you?
I'm not talking about a thread with an endless list of abbreviations, I'm not hoping that someone else will do it either, cause it isn't what I'm suggesting.
Maybe try reading through it again and then you can start disagreeing with the suggestion, because you obviously didn't get it the first time, as simply as I put it. Or you could try reading the last answer I gave you, where I already clarified that I was talking about incorporating it into the game itself.


I am all willing to take criticism but maybe read the answers already given and then you can continue to lambast it? :)

but the abbreviations arent "part of the game ?" they too are player created
so its more up to the players to explain them

This would be so helpful but most likely would have to be player run. Makes for less awkwardly asking another player what something means.
