what's the problem, the thread should continue if it was good content, people who stop posting because of karma would just demo why karma had to be removed.

Honestly, updates in travel run and the posts in the flower thread are more valuable content than many "normal" uprated forum posts.

Balancing the karma system is a great idea, but retroactively removing karma and "banning" certain threads is not the best path IMO.

Think karmic thoughts before posting on the forums and your karma will increase.

Wow, incredible swings in karma this month, some players have lost incredible amounts of karma.

Actually not at all, mine was barely affected with the adjustments, others lost alot of karma, and alot of work.

I can summarize this in 3 words: Special Snowflake Syndrome...

i agree with what you're saying that using the thread simply to farm karma needs to be stopped but this seems very drastic.

Could reducing the karma gained in certain threads be achieved? Say 1 karma for every 10 up votes in a thread like the travel one?

If achievable could be implemented in threads where people get up voted just for bumping

Im from Finland and posting on flower thread is only way to gain karma. Sometimes i take part on conversations, but whit my spelling i can't make my points clear so it is pretty hard. Yes, i do understand this is a english game, but please remember foreign players and keep karma like it is, so i can farm it up on flower thread.

It's not where the "committee" is coming from. The committee and staff discuss issues based on suggestions from the community at large. There have been ongoing complaints about karma farming on a large scale, and so it was discussed at length. As Ched has posted, an attempt at a solution to the largest area of concern has been implimented.

Ched's announcement also suggested that other forums may see a change as well. It is possible to give greater or lower percentages of karma based on the particular forum; such as having the Tutorials forum give 110% karma while the Flower run forum gets 20% (random numbers for an example.)

I think the decision to only affect these two forums for now is to see the response of the general player base to the change, before getting too rash about changing the entire karma system. These forums seem to have the greatest number of complaints from players of all karma levels, from all factions, and that use it and don't use it.

I will say this; the committee members do not make decisions based on their own personal gains or losses. This change would not have affected me personally either way, regardless of where my karma was.

That being said, if we ever hope to have benefits beyond a VIP forum for 1k karma (yes guys, that's all you get - oh, and a rainbow unicorn that poops DB's,) then karma has to mean something. Personally I don't think karma will every be all that relevant.

Here's why;

- If I give someone a negative karma with a legitimate reason (they are being a jerk, a hypocrite, they have given negative karma without cause, etc) they tend to respond by giving me negative karma and attacking or bountying me. Doesn't matter if it was legitimate of me to give them negative karma.
- Trolls will always exist, and trolls R+ trolls.
- Idiots will always exist, and idiots R+ trolls.
- No matter how the karma system works, and regardless of whether it has a significant use or not, people will always complain about how it works.
- If a serious reward like an honour is given out based on karma, people will abuse the system even more to get it. We will have even more useless posts. The karma system, and every indication of what Ched has tried to do to strengthen it in the past, is based on trying to get relevant, quality posts. I believe a serious reward would actually break this system.

Etc etc.

Moral of the story... who cares. Honestly. The system can not be perfect, and you won't make 50% of the people happy 50% of the time, so let's all just agree to try to give out karma where it's deserved and not give karma where it isn't? Right. That doesn't work because people are people.

I refuse to R+ or R- anything in this thread.

These players never did anything against the rules, they were utilizing something that was approved to do. If they deserve the karma removed then every last karma post in the other areas should be removed to. Why not make a total of reset of everyone's karma?

You did not take away all the meds used when people were using "what the game allowed us to do" to get the med achievements before it was announced, nor did anyone get all the ill gotten money from exploiting the stock market.

There is 0 reason to remove these players karma. You can not punish someone for using what was intended or you will have to punish every last poster in the VIP section. Ched please do the right thing and restore these players karma.

Like I said keep my pathetic 100, just give them theirs back.
