no , it increases your chances.
Actually, the wording of the special is a bit off as the 10-star company special actually does appear to basically give anyone a 95% chance to runaway from anyone.
I've actually done 1,000 runaways so I'm speaking from personal experience against targets with more than 10x my speed vs their dexterity and maintained roughly a 95% success rate. The 10* special also negates the Fitness Bachelors special, meaning you still have a 95% chance to runaway from someone who has completed that education also.
If you're looking to complete the merits joining one should help minimize any energy loss.

I paid someone to do this using the special. It makes new players with low stats to be able to run away easily he didnt fail 1 time against me and did about 30 for me.
