I am unable to connect back to the irc server. I keep getting

Try connecting to irc.torn.com instead.
[23:14:06] Security error! Make sure you have port 8843 open (firewall). This is most likely a server problem. You tried to connect to irc.torn.com:6667

You are using wrong port. Try with 6667.
Very late edit(!): Sorry it seems that I misread your post. I was probably reading the message to fast to realize it. A tip you could do is to check with the firewall, as the error message states. Often when you start a new application in Windows for the first time a pop up appears with a firewall settings page. You maybe didnt give the application the permission to connect.
