Landed in Japan to discover that the number of items I can carry has dropped down to 20 from 30.

Yes.
It sounds like you selected to fly without your airstrip, what tab is selected when you return to the travel agency?
I selected to fly from the PI screen, commercial airline is not an option there.
Also lost ability to carry ten items.
Clicking on that option from your property takes you to the Travel Agency and potentially you can select another tab (eg: Standard)
I just arrived back & checked: the airstrip tab is selected.
I'll ask Chedburn to see if he's able to find out what happened

Your method of travel was indeed set to 'Standard' during that single return journey.
I also lost the ability to carry ten items - my max was reduced from 30 to 20.
Is this due to flying standard?
It is, yes
Yes, it will default to that, but it doesn't mean you flew that the previous trip.
Everything I'd back to normal now.
