So... This seems like a nice new feature to prevent stuff like this, but it seems like the limits is even lower now? I tried to edit the first post of this thread, got the message, then copied the whole post to test in the faction forum (so I could delete the post). Turns out I cannot even keep it the same length as the original one, or even with all the text at the top removed. Is this related to character limitations or a new *posts can only be this tall* type stuff?
Still does not explain why I can't post a shorter post then the one I referred to (only tables, without any text above the tables). And unless I am in error, it's related to the source code characters? so all the codes for a table, the full length of a image link etc. counts into the limit.
Yes it uses the HTML characters - we've already discussed this at length.
The database needs to hold the HTML code to do all the formatting, so that's where the limit it. Otherwise someone could say "hi" with a million-character-long HTML tag and exceed the limit.
I was referring more to the format you were going to change it to "post can only contain 10k characters", but it's (potentially) far less because it's in HTML code.
Also, I have a post here, top post, thread's first post. I posted it, and it worked out just fine. The fine post with everything working is a fine post, and it would appear that it does not exceed the 10k character limit. Everything is fine, right? What is not so fine is that the character limit is lower then it was before, because now I cannot post even just the tables there. As you see in the post that's working just fine above, I have the tables + some extra text at the top, now I cannot post the tables without the text at the top. I posted it with text, now I can't.
I see what you're saying now. So the first post there went fine (obviously, because we're looking at it) but if you try posting just the table without the text, then it doesn't work - so that is, well, ironic.
Also, I see that that first post - including all text and HTML, is 20,909 characters, which exceeds the limit of 10,000. Maybe something is going goofy with the tables or some other code that A) is allowing you to exceed the limit or B) there's something somewhere that isn't counting towards the limit for some reason.
I got over 20k myself, but thought I was misunderstanding what it counted (symbols don't count? something else?). I have posted it with even 2 extra tables, but decided to split it up to make room for text at the top. Considering it's at 20k now, I'm pretty sure it exceeded 30k with the 2 extra tables. Perhaps it didn't add into account the same links before? so having 15 of the same pictures, it would only count as one link? Still makes no sense to me though...
I'm not even sure what this is about, if I'm asking about character limits or if I'm asking about changes to the forum rule-set or whatever. All I know is what I explained about the working post, and a shorter, non working one.

I was in the middle of editing and updating, and after waiting 3 days I was getting impatient. For all I knew he could be busy with exams or anything else in real life, and since he had not posted anything anywhere on the forums during those days I think my suspicion had some basis (at least that he was not focused on torn during those days). Maybe he worked in the back-end of torn? maybe he was working on a project?
The problem is however fixed, and I even gave him credit for it. I din't even complain about him to begin with, I merely requested someone else to get things sped up.
The issue is however fixed now, so I see no need to have any debate on this. Staff can close posting access in this thread if they want to prevent bumping a thread no longer related to it's actual subject.
