It appears a recent Java update has broke citywatch. I could be wrong, if I come up with a fix, ill be sure to edit this post.

I just done latest java update and also broke city watch it seems ..chrome,win 7..i get the following error now.... The registry refers to a nonexsistant Java runtime installation or the runtime is corrupted The system can not find the file specified

It's working for me after the Java update, and I think I have a solution for those affected if anyone wants to try...

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB
Java version before update (both 32- and 64-bit): Version 8 Update 91 (build 1.8.0_91-b14)
Jave version after update (both 32- and 64-bit): Version 8 Update 101 (build 1.8.0_101-b13)

If you have a 64-bit OS then most things, like CityWatch, will use 64-bit Java. However, the built-in Java updater, for whatever reason, only updates the 32-bit version. Therefor a version conflict exists and everything derps.

Resolution:
1- Make sure everything using Java is closed completely.
2- Visit http://ninite.com and choose "Java" under the "Runtimes" section.
3- Download and install.

If you encounter any errors, that means you still have something running that uses Java, check again that everything is closed.
If both versions successfully install, CityWatch should work.

P.S. Torn Tools is a great alternative for Windows users ;)

sorry for the late reply.
actually it's not fixed yet
i update my java 64 and 32 separately usually, so even if i applied the ninite fix nothing changes
i uploaded the image for reference, once again thanks for the hard work

(double-checked that caps-lock wasn't on)

Follow mcneos steps, I was having the same error and that fixed it!

@stickz I know it sounds silly but it's worth asking, have you purchased city watch with points yet? Double check by going to the points building, if you own it it should be grayed out.
McNeo [864688]

I assume he has bought it, since he seems to be implying that it was working before he changed his password.

I think the error message is pretty straight forward, though - bad username or password. Try changing your password again and/or verifying it's all typed in correctly, along with your email. Otherwise, try uninstalled and reinstalling CityWatch, see if that clears out some setting file or something.
Scruffy [1835702] Committee Committee

True, didn't think of that lol!

Maybe the username/password is case sensitive? Instead of "stickz" try "Stickz", same idea with the password.
McNeo [864688]

Well, no, don't use stickz or Stickz... You use your email address, not your username.

Email address should not be case sensitive (though maybe it is?), password is for sure though.
Stickz [1192878]

i bought citywatch earlier until it stopped working; and don't worry guys, i REALLY ran through all the trivial stuff and double checked that it wasn't human error before i filed this report...so yeah, i used email, yeah i checked case sensitivity(caps lock off), yeah i checked java, (i have a habit of updating both versions of java by hand thats why i used ninites fix and it only rolled back my java), yada yada yada
so once again, double checked, ruled out mistakes

i appreciate that it's hard work writing an app, thanks devs, and it doesn't affect my game much, i only need the app to notify me while selling points, so i hope this bug will be fixed in due time, once again thanks all
McNeo [864688]

Ninite won't roll back anything, so, you're lying.

Anyway, this should have been reopened some time ago when it was determined Java wasn't your issue.
Stickz [1192878]

i don't see any benefit in lying when i need my problem fixed, but if you say so

but yeah, not fixed, not rushing, just hoping for an eventual happy ending, or whatever, lol thanks for the suggestion

I'll pass this report to Chedburn to see if he has any ideas about other things that might be causing the issue
Chedburn [1] Admin Developer

What version of java are you running. The developer has mentioned that it should work with all JRE and JDK versions at least version 7 update 25.
