Who likes today's modern rap? I often find that now a days rappers mostly rap about 4 things.
Money
Drugs
Women
Killing others

I would like to know just how many Torn players actually listen to this "fake rap".

I listen to rap about love, life and math... but of course it's hard to avoid the "fake raps" even good songs might have that containt

It is what it is brothers think it's cool to rap bout sellin dope and shootin at folks but in reality majority of them never sold a pack or busted a gun in their life. It's just what sales doesn't make it right and it slick pisses me off cuz you got these cats lying to these kids that's it's cool to be a street dude but they don't tell them about the bullshit that comes with bein on the block or bein in the streets. I got friends of mine that's gone now only way I can see them is in pictures and I know plenty people either doing life or locked up for a long time there's no future in bein a gangster or a dope boy you either die or go away for a long time that's it. But if you listen to half these cats out now they wont tell you that hell most of them never been in the streets I could start naming rappers Ik for a fact thats fake but that's a whole different thread.

Modern rap, what lyrics, its all about the beat. Im a fan a Future he got a unique flow, with Esco behind him there's talent there
However i jam many generes, so the old school rap goes hard with the lyrics and patterns straight to the heart. Of course Pac and Biggie but what about Tribe called Quest, Ghetto Boyz, Big Pun, DMX, Common, N.W.A
The list goes on but a very great example would be Common's song "I used to love her" if you think rap is just a bunch of bs then you'd prolly just think the song was about a 'bitch' when really if you 'pay attention' you'd realize its about the subject of the thread its self HIP HOP.

Ive been listening to hip hop & rap for all my life. The thing you have to think about is that music evolves.

NWA and many more 90's groups were about women and killing, but theyre always considered classics in hip hop. Whereas people like Young Thug, Future etc. are trap rappers, which rap about money and drugs. There are many other artists out there who rap about other things.

Theres all sorts of acts & groups out there who rap about different things. You shouldnt force yourself to listen to trap music if you dont like its culture & style and brand it as "modern hiphop" when there are plenty more artists in hip hop other than trap rappers. After all, hip hop is a huge movement with many different genres under it, you just need to look around for the style you feel comfortable with.

At one point in my life i listened to some rap, but the shit nowadays i just cant stand. Give me some Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Nas, Dr. Octagon any day over whats out nowadays.

idk who any of these people on the radio are any more. but that's basically true regardless of the genre of music. i always liked the roots, tech nine, mos def, talib kweli, roots manuva, mc chris, optimus rhyme, dilated peoples, matisyahu - all sorts of stuff that's rap but different than the rest. i've even had an awesome time at icp shows back in the late 90's.

but i have to say that rap is not generally my go-to type of music. although i do have a wide and weird range of interests.

listening to mainstream and stuff that gets a lot of play is always gonna be like getting herded along like sheep. it's gonna be all flash and no substance made to appeal to the widest range of people. just like the menu at a fast food place.

and just like fast food, if that's all you consume, you're going to get bored. you're going to dull your taste. you're not going to even know what other options you have. sometimes, you just gotta walk on by and step into that kebab shop or coffee place you always ignored. sometimes a conversation with someone new leads you to a part of town you're not familiar with, and your mind opens up a little.

to keep it real i only listen to slick rick.


Many older fans of hiphop talk about how they miss the crate digging but they cant even bother search the world wide web for more then "press random radio link" to find something, There is so much beeing made, released for free, hungry artists who are out there making big chances to the scene that we will probably hear in mainstream 5-10 years from now, but aint nobody caring cus they dont have the time, stamina or interested enough to try find it. "when i was kid everything was bether" mentality is to big.
