From the description I would assume that 2 8's were on the board but the last card was lower than a 10.
Meaning, that both of you now had the hand two pairs King and Eights, but your opponent had high card 10, while you only had high card six (or possibly 7 or 9 depending on the board)
According to logs they won with higher kicker, you both had K, K, 8, 8, so their 10 will play.
