Karma

Just like to suggest that the ability to uprate/downrate posts should increase on a scale with the more karma you have.

Not sure how it is now, but if you have 0-49 Karma you should not be able to uprate/downrate others' posts, and with each 50 karma, you should be able to rate 1 more per day... As in 50-99 1 rate per day, 100-149 2 rates per day and so on up.

Idea of this, is that those with high amounts of Karma have developed a sense of what is accepted in the forums community, and should therefore have more ability to steer the forums in the correct direction, compared to someone who has 10. Also, if someone is a troll or constant supplier of crap on the forums resulting in said 0-49 karma, they really should not be in a position to take others down with them

Brando had ~2400 karma iirc before he got himself 0ed and has always posted inane garbage, it's not really a good indicator of "quality posting" tbh. As it is now, it is entirely meaningless aside from the VIP forum (which is garbage as well), which is a good thing.

IMO, I would rather see karma removed entirely.

I don't think a sliding scale. It favors the high and mighty, it could be abused by factions, to what end I dont know. But if people in factions can work against a single person and reduce them to not having a vote that's ridiculous.

Also with this type of rule forums could be a war.
Factions could theoretically reduce another factions members to 0 if they worked in coordination with othee factions.

And how would those with little karma vote for suggestions? If factions were sitting on those speaking against while boosting their own would ruin the point the whole system.

I like the current system, it's simple and itd done the job so far. I know there has been some abuse, ppl downvote as retaliation however in the current system everyone has the same power to use as they wish.

I find this too abuse-able since karma isn't very accurate in itself in it's own function, given only on popularity and not on quality, the fact the more votes you have, the more you can boost up another player whenever you want and just get one guy dragging up all his friends then downvoting the rest of Torn, removing almost all their votes and countering any return downvotes with each other's upvotes.



I like the idea, but it's just not viable. Unless Karma was given based on quality and not popularity, which would require an entire rework of the system as well as a lot of staff oversight (Is that the right word?) to watch for abuse when they can't even moderate the current system which is simpler.

This is pretty much what I think, although putting a certain limit from when you are able to downvote / upvot would remove the ability for people to influence good threads etc with their multis.

this seems like a good idea. it avoids the abuse from multies, trolls, and other creatures that lurk the forums, and it gives more power to those who people basically gave the power to.

Yeah I post absolute nonesence and have 650 karma.... Karma doesn't = quality

If someone likes what you say (even though it might be the dumbest shit someone has ever said), and upvotes it. Fine. Whatever. But don't give idiots like me a platform to stand on. Because that's how idiots get in power, and thats not good (not talking about politics.I promise)
