I just noticed that you could reset merits. Does this mean that you can reset them back to 0 but you get to keep everything youve gained....nerve etc? Thanks in advance for your help fellow citizens

When you reset merits, all the gains from those merits also go away, so you truly start from zero again. It is used to redistribute the merits you have earned. For example, if you put 55 merits into Education and you've finished all the courses you plan to take, you would reset and put those merits into something else that will help you.
It means you can reset the upgrades you have allocated merits to when you spend them. You will then be able to use these merits again on other upgrades. Every time you reset, the price to reset hours up, so do this sparingly if you don't have the points to spend on resetting
It only takes 55 merits to get 10/10 in any one category.
All the gains you made, while using the benefits from that 10/10, do not go away.
When you reset your merits it allows you to redistribute your merits into different categories.
Example: If you had your 55 merits invested 10/10 in education, and then you reset your merits, then you could invest them again into 10/10 Slashing damage, or into any other arrangement in the other categories.

What do you mean by the gains not going away? If you have 10/10 in education and you reset, spending no merits on that category, don't you lose the 20% reduction in education time benefit? If that's not the case, I really learned something new today.
No ... resetting your merits is the same re-spec mechanic that exists in any game with this style 'perks' system. You just get to re-allocate your merits, of course you can't put merit points in something and then reset and keep that perk without putting the same points back into it. Then everyone would just do that and have 10/10 in everything.
Yes, the benefit goes away when ya reset merits to something else. from what ya originaly had.
ok thanks guys...so its just a way to re set them and use them differently if you choose to.
i think what Turmoil want to say is whatever that are completed, achieved will not go away. Like getting crits damage counts, when you reset it, the crits damage count still there. But things like having extra hp will not stay.
Let me ask a specific question because this is the reason I really want to know. If I used merits to increase my nerve bar and reset my merits, will the extra nerve that I gained using merits remain or go away ?
everything you gained will go away. if you have 5 points in nerve for +5 nerve you will lose that 5 nerve on the reset.
if you have +5 points in reducing education length you will lose that reduction as well as everything else.
only reason to reset is if you messed up big time or say you put merits into masterful looting for improved mugging but no longer mug so resetting them to put points in something you use. however each time you reset it increases the amount of points it cost to reset it again. right now it costs me 3500 points to reset which is very costly.
