Our response on a recent jailing

Hi,

As some of you may have noticed, a member of the player committee was removed and deleted last week. I would like to share with you the reason why.

As a game which is constantly updated, we need a team to test and tweak these updates to ensure they work, and work well. This team comes in the form of not only the player committee but also staff. We put a lot of trust in these two teams and there are usually no issues at all. However, when someone does take advantage of this to further their game, or their friends', we feel disappointed and this leads to the rest of the staff/committee team quite annoyed as well as the wider public.

During discussions of the recent update to Duke's contract list, Chedburn had mentioned very clearly not to sell particular items until the update was released. This player was given one of these items and chose to ignore this instruction and send it to a friend (whilst telling them explicitly to auction the item) who then proceeded to list the item in the auction house. They would have benefited by gaining $300m.

When all staff and committee members join the team, they are informed that if they abuse their position in any way, they will instantly be punished, usually by deletion.

Whilst everyone has their own opinion on this, we believe we have taken the right action.

I would like to thank those in the staff team and committee who have tested many updates with integrity.

We want to assure everyone that being friends with admins (or otherwise) has no bearing on the punishments we apply to players accounts, they are always applied equally regardless of your donator status.

Our game rules have done us proud for the past 10 years, and we always resolve any issues when they crop up. We will of course be evaluating the response to this thread but cannot guarantee anything will be changed.

I will keep this thread open for all to read and have an open, sensible dialogue. Remember this thread is not about the player in question but about us being open in the way we want Torn to run, fairly and transparently.

Thanks for the explanation. Rules are rules and its good to see they are enforced on everyone.

It's nice to know that staff actually has a code that they have to abide by and can and will be punished if they break it. It's also nice to know that there are some who not only read the forums but care enough to actually give well reasoned responses and not just strug it off with condescension. I hope others can follow suite.

Good. Such people should be removed from the game as soon as possible.

For what it's worth I do think that the punishment is somewhat a bit extreme. Just my thoughts and I don't know nor have had any contact with said person!

In all seriousness, great job staff. If midknight was that desperate for 300m he could have just asked me ;)

The player in question doesn't have friends who are admins or in high places. pointing this out seems very mis leading. As if to give a pat on the back...which isn't justified.

Also many have done far worse and not had their account deleted. And yes they DID know admins and otherwise. Obviously rules were broken, but this punishment does not fit the crime and is excessive. 300 mil should be account deletion? if that is the case many many people playing this game should not be here.

Now fed for 7,30, 60 days makes sense. kicked off the committee, yes. maybe fined 300 mil? sure.... But this is a player who also as you say WORKED and gave to torn by serving on the committee. that counts for nothing? He also has no marks of ever doing anything illegal or cheating. Many people here scammed way way more with scripts, multi, etc then 300 M. On top he did not even get any money.

Play money is everything to some players and when they see some on offer they will take it no matter what the risk.

Let's keep SA and their players out. They react to something happening to a friend without them knowing what happened. It's quite common to stand up for a friend. It's part of this thing called friendship.

Am happy that staff and committee actually do follow rules. Even though 95% of time it seems they don't.

$300 million isn't an awful lot really. I understand there is a gross breach of trust here, but that can be fixed real quick by revoking all his privileges. I also have no idea who this person is or what they sold. Seems a very heavy handed response, in character I suppose for the Torn Admin staff.

It's not over the 300m, it's over compromising the integrity of the players committee and staff team and fundamentally breaking the first thing we're told upon joining. If you're too thick to see that then that's your own problem.

The committee members get enough shit from players as it is, without someone blatantly abusing the information given to us. Let's hope he's not allowed to restart.

Obviously your too 'thick" to understand the dynamics. He is not on the side that is the far majority of split within torn. So handing him out a severe and excessive punishment does not speak to integrity.......it actually increase the doubt in it. When everyone in the game thinks is excessive that speaks a lot.

and blatantly abusing? how about all those people who made billions on billions with info ahead of time about education stock!
