Our response on a recent jailing

If punishments are clearly communicated to All players based on severity of their abuse/mistake there will be no complaints.

I don't do much playing anyway but as we've put so much time into our games why shouldn't we play? My first priority is as staff now not a player and i'd turn a faction colleague in if they broke the rules, if i couldn't i'd step down. I'm sure i'm not alone on that.

He didn't break the rules technically though so your argument is invalid. He sent the item, did not sell and did not receive anything in return.

Bad idea. With how often things change (especially now), how would a player be able to make proper game-play decisions without knowing mechanics?

It's like if a video game company listened to a person who hasn't played a particular game when designing one, aka launch-day Diablo III.

Why isn't MarlonBrando on the Committee yet? He sounds like a great guy for the position.

30-60 days fed sentence would be fair in my opinion. He has already served quite some time, he admits it was a stupid moment of complete madness. For a guy with a perfect track record, I believe him.

He deserves a second chance.

Anytime you have a punishment structure that is set. It makes for crazy punishments for crazy crimes.

There needs to be a floating system for punishments. Because any way you look at it. For what he did. Account deletion is crazy.

In that case they could consult the players.

You all need to ask yourselves, would you react the sam if it were AlguemPT or Z_Junior JFK, I think not., would you delete them in the same case.

Actually, and I truthfully mean this as a person who's known Z for a lot of years before torn... yes I would. Even for myself.

I'm glad a thread like this was made by an admin, I guess it's a very good chance to clear the air and bring a bit of openness to the community. For the record, I think Midknight's punishment was apt. When I first joined the committee, I exchanged mails with Clansy and it was made crystal clear that if information was shared outside the committee when it clearly shouldn't be, my account would face deletion. I had time at that point to back out if I didn't want to, and since then I have been mindful of this fact.

The exact quote from Clansy's mail is as follows:

Trust is huge on the Committee if you are found to be sharing information (and we will find out) your account will be deleted
and you will not be welcome back to Torn. Please note deleted means deleted. We trust you with information before we release
it to the public we expect that it stays private until released by game Devs/Admins.

So I welcome Marc's refreshing attitude towards committee discipline. Hopefully it will alleviate to some extent the distrust and contempt that is held for committee members. There is no reward for being a committee member, and it requires continual discussion and activity, as well as an in-depth knowledge of game mechanics. Players who meet all of these criteria are hard to come by - even I don't know everything there is to know about game mechanics, but I try my best.

But there is one thing that troubles me. Recently, I reported a group of players who use a stock script when I found it on their site.

Above is a screenshot of what the script does; automatic alerts for the player when stocks hit certain price levels, have shares added to the exchange, or forecasts change. Below, is an extract of the code; written within is clear evidence of who was responsible for the creation of the script, which I believe also to be a good indicator of who is/was using it.

Now, getting down to what really bugs me, Midknight was fedded for abuse that would have seen either him or his friend around $300m better off. Fine.

I reported Nash, Hank, BraveKath, decap101 and afwas (the ones easily identifiable from the script's comment section) for use of the illegal script that has helped the group make literally HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars.

Now, given that my evidence was accepted by a staff member and "action was taken", it is evidently clear that a) the group received no fed time, and b) no networth was removed. So what did they get? Nothing? A warning? A tap on the wrist? What the hell kind of a punishment is that?

How is this a similar level of justice?

I want to reiterate my point of view: ban the cheaters. This isn't a call for Midknight to be released, but for other cheaters like him to be punished by being removed from the game.

He got one. Deletion is the punishment he was told would happen.

Good way to have a whole lot of white noise. Also, if they aren't sure how to play the game, how would you expect them to know which suggestions are good/bad?

Listening to your players is good, but you absolutely do need top level players within your staff group..

it still wasn't in the rules. Maybe MK didn't read that post. He is traveling Europe and there are ALOT of posts daily in the committee thread. Maybe he was drunk and read over that comment.

My whole point of bringing that up. Is that we recieved a set of rules and punishments when we joined the committee and nowhere on that did it talk directly about what MK did.

give him a 60 day fed. Kick off committee and it would be more inline with what he did. Especially since according to the rules I recieved he didn't break any rules. He broke something ched said(if he read that post since he's been busy)

What i like about this thread is that there is an open conversation about issues.

No back room talks, no take it to reports or pm...

I think this is good for the community as a whole..

Emotions will flare up, things will get heated...keep moderating and let it go its way.

Torn will be better afterwards, im sure...
