Are cashier's checks a way of storing money, thus kind of protecting yourself from being mugged for too much?
For example, you have 5 million, but bid on stuff at the auction house (expecting to be outbid, so only bid slightly above the max bet), spending 4 million. Throughout the next couple hours, you are outbid on your item(s), as expected, receiving cashier's checks. If you don't cash out your checks at the bank, does it count as just stored money? Like, can someone mug you for more than that 1 million you have left? Or can they take away from the cashier's checks?
They can not touch anything apart your money on hand.
Companies can be hacked for their balance as well so they aren't always the safest place to bank cash either
Cashier's checks are only held for a maximum 24hrs too
You can't be mugged for what you hold in them but they do time out and the cash goes on hand and is then muggable
Yes defender! The auction house is a excellent way to 'hide' money.
The smart way to do it is to bid a nice amount on a item which is saleable. There is a lot of 'junk' /trinkets on the auction house but a lot of the listed items are highly tradeable.
So you bid say all your play money on a item of value and the bid will be 90-95% of the cheapest bazaar price.
If the item is listed for 20 days you could 'hide' your play money for most of that time until someone outbids you. Or you could bid on a shorter auction.
When the auction is over you have a good item which you can trade to a legit trader or you have a cashiers cheque when you are outbid.
