I think we can all admit that there is a HUGE issue with player retention, only about 1/7 players hit level 15, and the amount of daily players is somewhere between 16-18k normally, yet over 2,000,000 accounts started and only 600,000 not deleted

Very simply, people volunteer to help out new players, who can request a mentor if they want a hand with starting out the game, learning the official and unofficial rules of TORN, maybe giving them a few small things like a ville to rent just to get them started

I want to be clear: this is not for personal gain, I rent out my villas for free to new players in the hopes they will log in again, also this program should not be for older players looking to get free defends, and abuse of this should be punishable by a federal jailing, also this mentor program is OPT IN, no one should be forced to do it

Nice idea. R+.

Would enable players to learn more about torn from older and more experienced players without having to go on global.

For those, who I'm sure will turn up soon, yes, this info is available on the forums, but newer players are too lazy to read even though it is a text based game.

By having some sort of mentoring program available would allow them to first find out more about the game, and after they've got the basics, they can be introduced to the forums etc.

Reminds me of a guy I gave a free AK-47 to and some ammo money before Christmas, to help him with his missions. Never logged in again, after logging out no less than 5 minutes after I gave it to him and he said thanks.

Yes, as new players have it so tough in this game, and giving new guys free shit is going to set them up as a good player in the future...

No, really. Spoon feeding players always works... []

I mean, you can already mentor newbs if you want. But if you really want some kind of function I guess people could sign up for access to the new players forum, to help out new players like that... :)

There is another forum chat about bullying. The mentoring program and anti bully program could work well. Creating clear forum posts for people who are willingly to mentor others and clear post for people who think are mistreated. And the community of good players who care can help and guide. I think this is a grate way to make the game grate place and to keep new people in the game. Mentoring will give them opportunity to ask and be guided and the secound option protection from nasty people. Grate idea again

R+ On this idea. I have been thinking similar things myself. Glad its not just me thats thinking Torn and its citizens would greatly benefit from this. My thoughts are as follows:

The Basics

- Players under level 15 can be mentored as students. Players over level 15 can be mentors themselves. I will now refer to them as "Mentors" and "Students".

- The game could have a Mentor System intergrated into it. Torn City can have a "Mentor Building" where potential Students can browse the list of current Mentors that have opted into the Mentoring System. Likewise Mentors can see a list of recently registered players.

- Players can apply to a Mentor for mentoring. This can be limited to 3 applications at a time. The first Mentor to accept a players application will become the Mentor of that Student. Mentors can have up to 3 Students at any one time.

- Students can leave their Mentor and apply for a new one at any time. Mentors can kick their students at any time. This will be useful for Students that feel their Mentor isnt very helpful, and Mentors can kick Students should they become inactive or not progress towards Graduation.

Reward System

- The Mentoring System can have a reward system that rewards both Student and Mentor for achieving set milestones. Milestones can be for Students to reach levels 5,10 and 15. Rewards for Students can be in-game cash payouts (i.e. reach Level 5 - $50k, reach Level 10 - $100k, reach Level 15 - $250k). Rewards for Mentors can be Torn Points (to save, spend or sell at the Points Market & Building) and scoring points. The scoring points can be used to rank Mentors on a leaderboard and shows that their Students are reaching their milestones.

Graduation

Students can Graduate by reaching a set criteria. For example: Reach Level 15, $2m Cash, $5m Networth and 4k Battle Stats. This will encourage Students to learn about Training, Earning Income and Increasing Networth. Graduating will also earn rewards for both Student and Mentor. Students can be rewarded with a limited supply of Energy Refills plus a property with free 7 days rental such as a Villa. Upkeep will still be maintained daily by the graduated player. Mentors will earn more scoring points to improve their rank on the Mentor Leaderboard plus Torn Points.

This is just a few ideas thrown together. I would love for this to be improved upon by others. And see if we can get a Mentor System in place for Torn City. If any more ideas spring to mind, I will edit accordingly.

Dunno how I didn't see this earlier.

It's really easy to block/ignore someone who immediately starts out with begging...but the ones who have real questions, or just need validation of their strategy and decisions, are worth my time.

I certainly don't have all the answers, but I can help if they show effort and initiative.

Would only be access to the forums, meaning you'll basically help out in a broader sense than just personally mentoring newer players.

And signing up doesn't mean you instantly get accepted, much like committee apps.
