Chedburn has not replied to my direct mail on this, so my point of this bug report is fairly simple.

Chedburn has frequently noted that his main intention was to remove profits gained through the window of the WSSBGate saga. This window was from the 9th July until the 29th July. Chedburn's latest reply in one of the General Discussion forums, and plenty of others before it, reiterates this 'window' quite clearly:

Chedburn says:

It is what it is. In this situation we could have either let potential cheaters profit, or revert the suspicious window. It's that simple. That's my opinion, and the opinion of the masses. It's possible there might not have been any cheating at all going on - but why let Torn's credibility suffer forever because of it.

However, with his script, he in fact removed profits from a much wider time frame, well after the 29th July, when the WSSB benefit block was changed and made public. Any profits generated from this stock after the 29th July were publicly available. I am therefore requesting that Ched refunds any profits that were generated from this stock after the 29th July.

The final price of WSSB on the 29/07, according to my investigations, was 146.056. Feel free to verify this with your own logs.

My records indicate that I sold two blocks of WSSB. One for 24,900,000 shares, with a buy price of 79.490, and one for 375,000,000 shares, with a buy price of 80.260. Taking this final WSSB share price on the 29/07 of 146.056, it looks like my WSSBGate profit for the period of 09/07, to the 29/07, was $1,657,493,400 for the block of 24,900,000 shares, and $24,673,500,000 for the block of 375,000,000 shares. This makes a total of $26,330,993,400 profit generated during the WSSBGate window.

Chedburn deducted a total of $140,061,435,636 from me due to WSSB profits. Taking away the profit generated during the WSSBGate window, this leaves a balance of $113,730,492,236, which I feel I am owed as a refund.

This was suggested by Jas earlier in the same WSSB discusison thread in General discussion here: https://www.torn.com/forums.php?p=threads&f=2&t=15994196&b=0&a=0&start=140&to=17511403.

Jas says:

Just adjust the profits everyone in the window made by shifting the buy date and price to what it would of been after the window so there is no advantage to anyone who had insider info and no one gets unfairly shafted either. Everyone should be happy with this. It still slightly punishes those who bought in the window because of the chance that if they were innocent they still lose a chunk of profit. Just not more than they would of made had they purchased once it was public knowledge.

I feel that this is the most fair way of dealing with the issue. Removing the profit from the 20-day window in question should be the fairest way to deal with the whole issue, since you are still penalizing us, but also not taking away anything that couldn't have been done by anyone else in Torn.

Thanks,
Nash.

Chedburn has already made his view on this quite clear on other bug reports. I will quote his reply there on this topic:

"This is not about punishing people or removing illegal gains from certain individuals. It's about reversing everything during that 20 day window to bring 'WSSBgate' to a total and complete close."

I will push this to him in case he has anything extra to add.

I would like to remind everyone that replying here is to be done ONLY if you have something relevant to the bug or issue that was reported.

Trying to troll, or otherwise clutter the topic with something that should be posted elsewhere is NOT acceptable, no matter how you feel about the person or what faction they are in.

The profit made is the total value from buy to sell. I can see the logic behind just removing the value between the window start and window end - but I wanted to remove all profit from those who purchased anywhere within the window. People who purchased on the day before my announcement for example wouldn't have been touched at all, not to mention they were all shares available during that window that were not available after the window to others.
RGiskard [1953860]

It's important to note that shares of WSSB were consistently made available after the window.

There wasn't a particular advantage to already owning shares at that point. Anyone who desired to buy in could do so immediately and, except for the profit already made, would be in the same boat as people who bought earlier.

Unless a stock is impossible to buy, there is never any difficulty to get into a stock investment, only to get out.

Then adjust the profit to the time shares were incredibly readily available. Somewhere around $250. There was a point where over 3 billion shares were listed. Well after the window and anyone could have invested any amount. I kept mine well after any of this up to $430 or so. That's almost 60b, happy to do more accurate calculations.

i do have to say it is a bit unfair - all these players couldn't buy it after the window as they were already invested.

edit: i bought it after the update came out as it was very clear it was going to be a hot stock. all of these players that caught it early just completely miss out despite if they are innocent or not is what i mean by that so they just miss the thing entirely. not very fair for the innocent players which is probably the majority of them tbh.

This graph was posted by Hank in the other thread. As seen, in very early August, WSSB hit around ~$200-$250 a share, and a monstrous amount of shares were listed, peaking at over 3b. Anyone in Torn could have bought in around this time. If you (generously) take $250 as the share price it was very easy to buy into WSSB, and well after the public change, then this would change my calculations in the original post to the following:

I sold two blocks of WSSB. One for 24,900,000 shares, with a buy price of 79.490, and one for 375,000,000 shares, with a buy price of 80.260. If you calculate the 'illegitimate' profit on these blocks to a sale price of 250.000, my WSSBGate profit window, would be $4,245,699,000 for the block of 24,900,000 shares, and $62,902,500,000 for the block of 375,000,000 shares. This would make a new adjusted profit during WSSBGate to $67,148,199,000.

I was deducted a total of $140,061,435,636 as already mentioned, and this would mean returning $72,913,236,636 to me, and somewhat similar to Hank. I appreciate you have closed this off, Chedburn, but please let me know if you think my reasoning here is worthwhile or not, and whether I would be entitled to keep profit from this further extension of keeping these shares.

If not, I will drop this and not mention it again.

Thanks,
Nash.
