say for example, you have 3 branches

1) steadfast

2) toleration

3) criminality

If you cancel all steadfast upgrade, will toleration now become your 1st branch? Coz thats kinda what we want.

Found the answer to this already the hard way. Canceling steadfast just means canceling steadfast. The branches wont move forward.

Does steadfast remain selected just no upgrades in it? Or does that first branch open up so you can pick a different speciality?

It might be how you want it but it doesn't work that way - ched has said he'll get devs to work on a "unset all" mechanic for a specialisation to make switching things around easier

You have to unset from the last point of upgrade.

I'm not sure I follow... So you can change the order of specialization branches, but to do so you need to unset all of the specializations to the right and work your way back?

Yes. Meaning if you want to change the first branch, you have to unset all
