mission cracking up...expert...ive interrogated themann 6 times...is this a bug that needs reporting

This isn't a bug, the success rate is around ~40% (per aurel1), so you can end up having to make a lot of attempts before you get the code.

If you think that rate is too low, I recommend making a suggestion topic to ask Chedburn to consider raising the rate.
