i know that most people think fax machines went out a long time ago, but in my line of work i use the fax machine everyday. here is the scenario: we have a main copier out with our secretaries which is where all the faxing is done. in my office, next to my pc, i have a printer with faxing capabilities. my questions is, can i somehow set my printer to only send faxes and not receive them? it would be nice to be able to fax from my desk but dont want to get copies of everything we receive. thanks in advance for any help.

Could just use your PC for faxes instead. Used to be that you had to have a ' fax modem' fitted or connected to your PC and connected to a phone line. I know you can still do this on Windows 7. Presuming your printer will also scan?
I think there are now services that allow you to send faxes online, so you don't even need the modem.
Pretty sure most decent fax machines have a setting to switch of printing faxes, but I suspect your'e going to have to find the manual for the specific make/model.
thanks for the response. i had no idea you could fax from your computer. crazy. i have the manual in my desk somewhere, im going to dig it out and see what it says. i was not even sure if it were possible.
You could always buy a faxmodem-to-USB converter, and plug it into your PC. And whatever drivers need to be installed on Windows will receive the fax.

Yes, most have a send only option, also if it's on the same fax line as the main copier, just set its number of rings before answer higher than that on the copier, so the copier will always pick up first.
