Haha, very true. And to the the OP, I think there was an announcement that explained it a little bit. Look at that and you will have the same information as us. But, to save you the time, I copied down what it said so you don't have to search:
"
Using the knowledge we gained from the scoring system of the previous forums, we were able to come up with a better system now called ‘Karma’.
- Karma is only gained by others rating your posts and threads.
- There are limits in place to prevent spamming of negative or positive ratings.
- Strict rules will mean paying for ratings (in any form) or increasing your karma in a way which was not intended will trigger an instant reset.
- People who only negatively rate threads and posts will have a very small effect on the receiving user’s karma.
- Karma cannot be reduced below 0.
There are already secret rewards in place for those who achieve high karma, and we’re looking to add more in the future."

It's a misnomer and quite a stupid name. It is a good idea so we can tell if the poster usually posts quality posts and worth reading or not. But for someone like me that only comments I won't get much of a score..not that it means anything to me.
maybe change it's name to...quality rating or just a black number or a red number without a name(we should be smart enough to know it's a forum score)
