Not sure what you're referring to. Faction can easily use, irc, discord or skype to communicate with allies, post in faction chat and boom targets down. watching players get hit off the hill from "?" is about as entertaining as watching the bar move in my opinion.
No one suggested you should have no outside interference as it's part of and will always be apart of this system. I'm suggesting creating 1 limiter. Many have other great suggestions that I hope they post like the 3 day rule for new members but if you are saying keep it for spectators only then what will you spectate when there are no wars?
I support keeping the identities of those on the wall purely to the factions involved (and I quite like armageddon's suggestion of just showing numbers to those who wish to spectate, although I've never done so myself). This would help prevent trolls and personal feuds not related to the territory.
However I dislike the idea proposed by some of the replies (Ali, Hedas etc) of only the factions involved in the territory war being able to knock them off the wall. My main reason for this is that if the wall participants are in hospital, say from being hospitalised by someone not involved in the territory war, then they are essentially immune for that period of time whilst still helping out in the territory war. I also appreciate the dynamic of allies helping out in war, although I can definitely see why some people would want it limited - very small sub-factions can quite easily obtain larger territories from the "middle" sized factions with the help of their allies.
Perhaps if it does become only factions in the war are able to remove off the wall, some new mechanic could be introduced? A couple of ideas popped into my head whilst writing this:
Being put into hospital by someone outside of the wall does not remove you from the wall. However, a possible new attack mechanic should allow the opposing faction to still remove you from the wall somehow despite you being in hospital. Perhaps being in hospital as well would have some sort of debuff (50% life lost? Reduced stats? etc.)
If you're on the wall and put into hospital by another player outside of the war, you do not lose your place on the wall. However, you would cease gaining points/prevent the other faction gaining points whilst you are still in hospital. After leaving hospital, point accumulation proceeds as normal without having to spend another 25e on rejoining the wall.
While i don't disagree with it, i'd rather see Destroys' idea instead. Allow everyone to still see it, allow them to help if necessary, but give extra rewards to the factions involved for knocking players off the walls. Allow the factions to earn points (AND/OR RESPECT eh?) for knocking people off the walls to help finish wars. At least then it's not just a matter of hopping onto the wall, get revived, and hop back on again, while letting other factions do the dirty work.
That said, i greatly disagree with the suggestions that they should ONLY be able to be knocked off by the factions involved. It's way too easy to abuse and is not very intuitive if you try to make it work with any of the other suggestions.
With Chaining 2.0 this is basically how it's going to work anyway. Factions actively involved in attacking will be gaining extra points for their faction any time they successfully attack anyone. There's no need to add anything specific to the walls. Wait until Chaining 2.0 comes out.
As for hiding anything, there are two reasons doing so doesn't make any sense: 1) The current system allows players who wish to avoid combat during contested territory wars to simply not join the wall, and "stay off the radar". It makes the war more granular, rather than automatically involving every member of a faction. 2) Hiding the membership shouldn't stop people from being removed from the wall by otherwise uninvolved factions/players, since that's too easy to exploit. So if we're just hiding people to make it more difficult to remove them by people who intend to do exactly that, but who can't see the wall, it's as simple as opening the target faction member list and just attacking onliners constantly. This has the added disadvantage of including everyone who wants to get some errands done from #1.
So, hiding the wall from outside entities really just makes the game more frustrating all around, without actually solving anything.
Also, it's highly unlikely that those "cowards" if we want to call them that, who want to avoid combat for whatever reason, will always be able to anyway, since ranked wars will still be a thing in Chaining 2.0.
Using outside tools is no excuse. We should judge all balancing by what is available in game or we could remove all communication tools in torn including the forums here.
But meaninglessly restricting this piece of information would have no real positive affect on the game. I WOULD support this if the proper IN GAME systems were in place to handle this, but they are not.
If some how the faction could control when and who can join the wall with respect to members volunteering to join the siege at an earlier time. Kind of like a queue but only the leader or co-leader decide when and who joins the wall.
I agree. Nothing stops either faction from taking a screen shot of the opposing members on the wall and sending that information to allies / friends / outside inference though.
However this suggestion will stop outside inference to a degree, so all for it. Rated +
