I know this game has been out for years and years but i have finally moved over to torncity after putting alot of time in to other tbg/rpg games.
i was hoping for some usefull advice of the more experianced members who may be willing to help.
The help i need is all information based. i dont want your items. money or to be your spouce (but it would be greatly appritiated if i had a few people on my friends list who i can ask questions without having the feeling i will get attacked for not having the game knollage everyone else has.
Good luck Dave, you'll get bountied for no reason, get mugged for no reason, and be the enemy of someone. If you can withstand that, you'll love it around here.
Rather than specialize immediately in the best way to play, I would say familiarize yourself with the city and play about a bit with the item market and gradually learn from the tutorials posted.
Learn bit by bit rather than try to learn it all at once - you noticed Torn is massive in its various styles and perks.
This is a game that rewards long term play and strategy.
There are many players I can kick their asses who are older then me in game and there are plenty of players younger than me in game who can kick my ass, but I muddle along quite happily.
Training in the gym is much more useful initially than hitting other players (unless you do the hits in missions from Duke).
A suggestion would be to do biology introduction and intravenous therapy courses - blood bags are your friend.
The best bit of advice I got : torn is a marathon not a sprint.
Those people in New player chat boasting of x mil stats in y days and x cash in y days blah blah blah, they never last long, play your own game, take your time and set yourself goals.
Also, do sports science education before all others.
If you wanna look for free stuff around the city, look on the city map. You won't find items every day like you will in the dump, but the things you can obtain in City Finds are much more valuable and you won't waste energy
If you wanna be a criminal, high amounts of nerve and crime enhancers are your friends
If you get mugged, bountied or hospitalized don't complain in the forums
High work stats make you more valuable to employers in this game. Stay in school and keep your NPC owned job until your work stats get very high. Then consider joining a player owned company. That being said, if an employer wants to hire you and you feel that the pay is good enough, then join.
As for trading, buy low, sell high. Use the Item Market or make a trade deal with a player to sell your items. You'll get more money from selling to other players than you will selling to NPCs. When you get to level 15, you can make millions by traveling.
I also see that you're currently in a faction. If you feel like you're being attacked and hospitalized too often, there's no shame in quitting until you pump up your battle stats some more.
One more thing. In the casino, the house always wins. Don't expect to turn a profit there. Only gamble what you can afford to lose.
Be aware that as with any game there are complete *******s lurking who would love any reason to bounty you .. this includes allegedly new players who are actually old players who have restarted the game but still have all their wealth by having a friend hold it for them when their original player was removed from gameplay ... so pick your battles wisely.
Don't join a faction or you will lose your new player protection and anyone can whoop your butt.
Train your stats pretty evenly. The latest incarnation of the attack system is unkind to those who have whored one stat.
Definitely check out the threads and forums suggested above.
Good luck [] and ignore Dude's posts you'll save yourself hours.
