TCN[1] n00b Appreciation Week and Boot Camp Challenge

One week to prove that age doesnt matter and n00bs can be just as dedicated as our beloved torn citizens who have been playing since WWII

• Sign-up: June 14th - June 18th

• Submit Stats: June 19th 00:00 TCT - 24:00 TCT (24 hours before competition starts)

• Submit Final Stats June 26th 00:00 TCT - 24:00 TCT

The competition will work like this- players between 0-60 days old who want to participate can sign up for the competition during the first few days after it opens by posting their current stats for the different areas being competed in. Those areas are:

• Greatest Increase in User Activity
• Longest Kill Streak
• Bounties Collected

The competition runs for 7 days during which time the participants will do their best to increase their stats in those areas before the competition period ends.

During the week of the competition there will be mini-challenges for players to compete in for prizes. After the week is over, participants will post their new stats and the players with the highest increase in each area will win prizes.

Volunteers will be maintaining the list of players participating and tracking their stats to confirm the final results as well as running the mini challenges over the course the week. Players can also win a special prize for overdosing the most times during the competition! Yay!

Now, to the details.

Who can participate?

Excellent question. In order to qualify to participate in this event, users must:

1. Be between 0 and 60 days old when the competition begins
2. Must sign up and post stats before competition starts and submit new stats after competition ends
3. Must follow submission format and competition rules

How do I sign up?

Im glad you asked! Signing up is as easy as 1-2-3! First, read the above. Do you meet the criteria? Yes? Wonderful! Next, look at your calendar. Is it currently before midnight of the day the competition starts? It is? Perfect! If you are eligible and the competition hasnt started yet, go ahead and read the rest of this post in its entirety. If theres anything you dont understand, ask for clarification. Once youve read it all over and think youve got a handle on it, go ahead post on the thread in this format:

Make sure to have that bold title at the top of the post so we dont miss is. A competition volunteer will add your name to the list of participants and ta-da, youre signed up.Your name will be added to the participant list and you will receive a free bag of tootsie rolls for your diabetic pleasure.

How do I post my stats?

You have just the most beautiful questions. Step 1- look at your calendar. Is today the 24 hour period before the competition starts? No? Okay, wait until it is. Okay now are we right before go-time? Yes? Perfect, now we can go ahead and post your stats.

In order to post your stats, you must first find your stats. Participants can obtain their own stats by going to their home page, clicking on the eye button next to home, and then selecting various stat areas for viewing from the dropdown menu. Copy the information you want to submit (such as user activity) and then compile that data into a work of art similar to the following example (remember the bold title is important):

STARTING STATS Name- n00b Days Old- 15 Current User Activity- 125,500 Current Longest Kill Streak- 8 Current Bounties Collected- 2 Current Overdoses- 1

Now admire your work and revel in it. Next, look over at your calendar again. Double check that you are posting within the 24 hours before the competition starts- not sooner, not later- so that everybodys baseline begins at the same place. And congratulations, youre good to go!

Note About Posting:

As each participant posts sign ups and stats, volunteers will maintain a list of participants and the status of their post being validated/approved on a regularly updated public .doc (link will be on front page of the thread). Only posts adhering to the time schedule and posting formats will be counted. All stats reported will be checked against participants public user stat page for validity.

Competition Week:

Now the competition has started and boy will it be fierce. You have 7 days to increase your user activity by neglecting friends and family, run super long kill streaks and claim bounties like theyre going out of style. If you overdose dont despair, youre now in the running for a special prize given to the poor unfortunate souls who also cant hold their drugs. There are two separate tiers of competitors- players ages 0-30 compete against those in that age range and players ages 31-60 compete against those in their rage. Both tiers compete in the same areas for identical prizes.

During the week we will have mini competitions running for small prizes, just to keep things interesting. Every day each participant has a chance to win $500,000 for Torn Appreciation Random Draw by posting on the main thread something they appreciate about Torn that particular day. Winners will be chosen either at random or by whoever gets the most lulz. Submissions should look like this (with, you guessed it, the bold title):

TORN APPRECIATION RANDOM DRAW My name is noob and today what I love about Torn is how friendly and accepting everyone is in global chat

Okay, still with me? Were almost done. At the end of the week when the competition ends, participants will make one more post showing their final stats. Youll notice in the example that unlike in the first stat post, youll include this time how many bounties you have received. This is to deal with tiebreaker situations- the least amount of bounties received wins. Sorry, Torn is ultimately a popularity contest. Anyway, heres what your post will look like with all its bold title glory:

While it is not mandatory, you may want to call up your primary school teacher to thank them for teaching you basic math since its finally come in handy and we all know you were that kid who insisted theyd never use math and that it was stupid.

Anyway, after posting that you can just kick back and relax and wait for our wonderful staff of volunteers to go through all the data and determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each tier as well as special prizes to be awarded. As soon as that process is finished, the results will be publicly posted and the winners will receive their prizes. What prizes, you say?

Rules:

1. Users will compete in two separate tiers- ages 1-30 and ages 31-60
   1. Both tiers compete in the same categories for identical prizes
2. Stats are calculated only for actions taken during the competition period (DCP)
3. Posting falsified stats results in disqualification
4. Tiebreakers decided by participant with the least bounties as the winner
5. Prizes are awarded for the top three participants in each competition area for both tiers
6. One type of prize per person- no additional prizes for duplicate 1st, 2nd or 3rd place winners
7. Posts of all types must be in correct format with heading in all caps
8. Whining or cheating will be punishable by revenge bounties

I do like this idea for newer players but should include a challenge for total stats gained think it will motivate more people if anything you want to encourage them to get stronger not to blow away E on kill streak/bounties.
