Faction Buying Guide

A lot of people ask what is a faction worth. This guide is a response to that:

• I recommend paying no more than 1 mil per 1k respect. This ratio is suitable for factions up to around 150k respect. However, for factions with over 150k respect, you can expect to pay around 2 mil per 1k respect.
• If you want a faction for use as a bank, start your own for around 2 mil.
• Do not buy a faction with a large member capacity or excessive respect spent on core upgrades. Find one that has enough respect available to unlock upgrades that suit your needs.
• Watching trade chat can yield some reasonable deals. I have seen:
  • 80-100k respect factions go for less than 75 MIL
  • 30k respect factions given away to the first person who messaged the leader
• If you have a limited budget, do not use the faction buying/selling thread [https://www.torn.com/forums.php#!p=threads&f=9&t=15907647&b=0&a=0&start=1480]. The factions advertised on this thread are over-priced and beyond the financial means of the average noob like myself. Instead, you should follow these steps:
  • Go to link [https://www.torn.com/factions.php?step=listing]
  • Click through the list until you find one that has your desired amount of respect
  • Message the leader and ask if they are selling
  • If they say no, find another faction and message its leader. Do this again and again until you find a seller. This way you will get a better deal than if you use the forum thread.
• Purchase factions with territory. If this is not possible, your first step as leader of your new faction should be to claim a territory. Territories represent easy respect and they are the future.

This thread really doesn't cover everything - like what if a faction has 1m respect, you're not going to pay only 2b for it - also what if one has a lot of challenges complete is it not worth more? What if it has good land, will you pay more and what are the risks which come with that?

Does it come with a user base already - how does this alter buying and selling and how should you interact with a userbase if it comes (pros and cons?)

Maybe some examples of those at the top end (going for 10b+) and explaining why they went for so much

Ultimately I believe you can only give a rough value and nothing more, a faction is worth as much as the highest bidder is willing to make and only if that person wants to sell - factions are traded very often, they're like collectible items - it's why you can only give a "rough" valuation.
