Yes... It's not as bad as people make it look it's just that we're humans and some people will always do the wrong thing with good stuff.

The websites mainly end with .onion instead of the normal .com and is accessed using the Tor Browser.

Are there really snuff videos and really horrific live stream videos?

There sure is but you must know the link to it. It's not just lying around.

It's full of broken sites, fake drugs/guns/credit cards, some twisted forums with graphic images and videos, tutorials on how to make bombs etc. - basically nothing special and not worth anyone's time.

The dark web is bad because not a lot of people care to use it...in reality, it is the only way to be anonymous on the internet. Your internet provider, government organizations (both your own and other nations), and the very websites you go on know a lot about you. Ever wonder why google won't **** off with certain ads because you're a gamer, athlete, or are dieting? It's because they're watching you always. The only escape would be the deep web, where you can hide away from anyone who wants to watch you (fear hackers though, without watchful eyes it's very easy to be attacked).

It's better there in the fact that you can for once feel like you're not being watched by rows and rows of beady eyes. Even what I just typed is likely long since seen by metro cast, the US government, and obviously this website (as well as google because I am using Chrome).

The dark web being tor/onion nodes?

It's not as exciting as you'd imagine, it just has a lot more questionable content which would be illegal but due to how tor hosting works and privacy masking works it's much easier to do without worries.

Everything from gun trade, drugs, hiring hitmen and much more dark stuff can be found but I like to think 90% of it is trolling and scan attempts via btc

I only found out about it a couple of weeks ago and have been reading and watching YouTube videos on it...It's not something I really wanna dabble with other than discussing it with people who have used or been around it.

It's probably worth noting that using TOR while always *only* *ever* visiting websites that also are on TOR is the only way to stay truly anonymous. Even visiting a single tracking website once, even if it's on accident, could jeopardize your TOR identity semi-permanently(or perhaps permanently, depending on who is tracking you).

So, generally, it's best to have a dedicated computer for TOR that you're very careful with, otherwise, you could be tracked down pretty easily regardless, which makes using TOR altogether meaningless.

If you want throwaway emails people will have a hard time tracking, or want to have forums with certain groups of folks, this is the place go to have them.

The stories of the red room and all that are overhyped. Most of the stuff people always talk about (like the cannibal forums) are really old and have been gone for ages.

IF you manage to stumble across a secret site that means business, it will be password protected, you have to know people to get onto those sites. Outside of those, it's mostly just people screwing around.

The only interesting thing ive seen on it were information on how to pick locks and the such, beyond that unless you want to buy illegal things its gets boring quick

Ah I wouldn't really say you can be truly anonymous on there, it's based on an internal military system iirc - I believe a few years ago the FBI added in some of their own code inside some child porn sites and made a large number of arrests from it (The main owners/contributors) - if it's hackable then I can't really call it safe :p

In short, yes. Both of these are possible and more than that, they're known to happen.

Edit: It's worth mentioning that in most jurisdictions swatting is already illegal, but it's difficult to trace(and therefore enforce) when the police are acting on an anonymous "tip" from a burner phone.

Doxxing is prohibited by most games' Terms of Use as well, although that doesn't seem to matter for some of the Randos you will meet on the internets. In addition, in most jurisdictions, doxxing could be prosecuted under anti-stalking/harassment laws.
