Let us assume he can do five simple tricks, he can pull a rabbit out of his hat, he can make a coin disappear, he can turn the ace of spades into the Joker card, and two others in a similar vein. They are his only tricks and he can't learn any more; he can only do these five. HOWEVER, it turns out he's doing these five tricks with real magic. Its not an illusion; he can actually conjure the bunny out of the other and he can move the coin through space. He's legitimately magical, but extremely limited in scope and influence.

You're talking about abilities vs a person not a person vs a person. It's not comparable.
In the grand scheme of things I'd still be far more impressed by Einstein.
Both a intelligent, just one is in more abundance...and in the understanding of science and such.

Well according to the OP the guy is a true wizard. So the inside of the hat would be on another plane. Meaning he could pull basically anything out of it.
I've heard it said that advance technology may resemble magic to primative societies and even if it's explained to them how the technology works, it might be as useless as speaking gibberish to that person. If I found out that "magic" was real, I'd kind of want it to be explained to me even though I probably either wouldn't understand or believe the magician. If it turns out the magic is just advanced science, he may very well be smarter than Einstein since he came from a civilization far more advanced than us but for all we know he might actually be the inept town fool who accidentally stumbled into a time machine. Or he might be to his society what most people are to ours; we have access to a lot of technology but how many people actually know how a car works or how cell phones work?
If it turns out that he is using real magic and not advanced science then why would anyone be impressed? How would that prove he's smarter than anyone? And how long will it stay "magic" as people would eventually find a way to apply the scientific method and turn the study of magic into a science.
I don't think he'd be able to pull just anything out his hat, he only has those five tricks and no more...
