Wow...slow down... please read on first :)

A long time ago, we had dogfighting. It was a fun game, but it was scrapped by Ched. If I recall correctly, it was because the whole dogfighting thing took too many serverspace and bandwith. Basically, it made the game lag like hell. While I did also like to breed and train dogs, I prefer a non-laggy game without dogs over a game which dogs which is unplayable.

[image: i.ytimg.com]It's become a bit of a meme to post "Bring back dogs" (or dongs) in the forums.

So here's my suggestion to bring back dogs, WITHOUT the lag-effect...

Add them as an upgrade to properties.

The below is a working document. Please provide feedback and suggestions. Thanks

Step 1: Build a kennel (Available for ALL houses)
Cost: $100.000
Effect: none

Step 2: Buy a dog (available for houses with a kennel)
Cost: $ 250.000
Effect: +25 happy

Step 3: Buy a second dog (available only to the "better houses" with a kennel, say Mansion and up)
Cost: $ 500.000
Effect: +25 happy

Step 4: Hire a K9-handler (available only for Castle and up, requires step 1-3 to be taken)
Cost: this guy is part of property staff, cost $ 100.000 per day
Effect: +25 happy + a small passive defence boost

Step 5:
Not sure yet...something only available for PI

But but but ... I don't want to have a smelly dog on my pi. They make me unhappy with their barking.

Gimme a bunch of purrrrrrrring bird-killers instead.

On a more serious note: dogs would need food. So costs for food could be added to costs for upkeep.

You say that all houses could have a kennel. For owned houses no problem. But what's with rented properties? It would be an upgrade, so the landlord would have to do it. What if the landlord doesn't like animals and forbid their tenants to buy a dog?

You could go the property route like you did, which I like, or you could also add it as a company. Create a company that trains dogs for protection, then the employees can trade job points for the dogs. Then the dogs could be sold on the items market as weapons (melee or temp maybe). While you are in a fight with another player the dog could attack during a fight, it would act either as a distraction, actually make damage every other turn, or miss it's target. During the "training" phase you can work on different areas to train the dog, which would affect how the dog attacks during a fight.

The whole suggestion is based on the assumption it will work the same as existing upgrades. So only the owner can do this. If he doesn't, tough luck for the tennant.

I really don't like the idea of animal fighting.

You know how you're watching this movie, people are getting shot, limbs hacked off, they're screaming, and you're yawning? But then you see a puppy or horse get blown up. That sucks. That's not something I would want in Torn.
Heigw [1962062]

That seems like a pretty solid idea! There was never dogs when I was here, but it seems pretty cool, and I like the idea of like a property upgrade thing! Maybe they could also be like added protection to your house or something?

Although I would love to experience dog fighting first hand (I came after it was taken out) sadly it will most likely not be back. But this is a pretty good lag free alternative so we can still have cute little pups

Had assumed dogs were put down because of cissys or peta. Didn't realise it was hogging the game. Now Torn is supercomputer let slip the dogs.

You're against dog fighting but ok with drugs, killing people and beating people up?

And the dog's don't have to be used to fight, use them as temp. weapons to be released off leash and attack your opponent (just look at my forum sig for real life examples of how "protection dogs" work)

Can I get a sniffer dog to patrol the airport and steal drugs from travelers landing that imported drugs from other destinations?
Wollongong [12833]

You know, I never understood sniffer dogs searching drugs. If they sniff drugs, shouldn't they be high and addicted all the time?

Thats how the cops train them they secretly make them addicts then the dogs go crazy for the smell so they can get there fix
