Just remove staff who abuse their position. Or maybe a two-strike system is best, one strike warning, second strike removal from the game entirely. If they are going to be allowed warnings then removal from staff alone isn't a very harsh punishment.

Do they need a personal agenda to read personal chats and logs, should they than make it look like someone else was leaking the private conversations?

If a staff member uses his power for personal gains then it is abuse of staff power. It effects the community as whole. This level of abuse is serious because it means our privacy is compromised just because staff member is curious what others are talking about them. He might even be checking on you and other JFA members just out of curiosity to see who is talking bad behind his back.

I think any attempt on reading personal chats from anyone by staff should be highlighted and logged with a reason stated, so it can be checked by other staff or higher authorities, to remove any suspicion or conflicts of interest.

Same with authorities irl, tapping into phones etc

You seem to be under the impression that you're entitled to privacy, your account belongs to Torn, every piece of content you create on your account, including messages belong to torn, that's why Torn has to enforce certain rules regarding content to protect its self.

TLDR version, privacy is not guaranteed, if you want real privacy then use an external encrypted chat.

The thing here is, Stretch did this for himself and his faction. If he is a staff his actions should be independent of his personal and faction's interest. This means if needed in wars, your staff faction members can read other faction's chat to know about their alliances, their tactics through abuse of power. Would you defend a staff member from other faction who would check JFA's chats for personal gain? Just because he belongs to your faction doesnt mean you need to defend him.

There is no proof that looking at logs was even related to Psychotica. In fact I usually bust Stretch's balls to bend rules and he has never done it. He knows everything is logged by Ched and has greater ethics than I do. If he looked at logs, it was for a legitmate reason

Did champ ever find out about the staff member taking screenshots of player reports and sharing them?

Yes so far there is no proof. But Cazio stated:

Which means even if Stretch did it its acceptable for him. My argument is its not acceptable, its serious, faction with staff members can abuse this power for their benefit.

I find it funny how the topic of staff corruption only mattered when it was me. I also find it funny in 8 months of playing Torn economist you have yet to explain how I affected the games entire economy by "apparently selling a mask in the auction house openly". And I truly find it funny that in the same paragraph you try to take a jab at my personality while at the same time calling me low for doing so to you. Like I said the intelligence level of the players in this game are in a free fall but hey this is Trumps America.

I would defend any staff member if I genuinely thought they were worth defending. If what he did is true then I do not condone it, however, considering the wide variety of tools at his disposal, his level of abuse is tiny, he made a mistake. Good staff are hard to come by, Stretch has been staff for years and this is the first time I've ever seen him brought up in an abuse thread. You seem to hold staff to a golden standard, they're not robots, they have feelings and from time to time they make mistakes. You're judging him based on one mistake (which we have yet to even see proof of or an official response), what about the countless hours day after day he's spent making the game better?

For argument's sake though, isn't there a massive difference between what information the site is allowed to access and what information a certain staff member is able to access?

Seems dishonest to try to conflate the two.
