Quick VPN question

Okay so I'm going to try to spit this out in the most sensical way I can think of:

If you have an ISP that charges 200$ a month for internet and says you get 1TB of service
Then says, if you go over 1TB we will charge you extra.

Now, the question:

If you run a VPN say from Washington where your cable bill is, and connect it through servers

in California then stream movies and do all the internet fancy you want too.

Does the data still count toward your ISP's 1TB limit, or since you are running a VPN

does it not count?

I would suggest yes, assuming your ISP is basing the limit on any and all data through your connection. In the VPN scenario your downloaded data would be encapsulated within the VPN tunnel, but is still being downloaded through your connection.

The VPN is just creating a shield when you access the Internet. Your ISP will still charge you for anything you download/upload, as MegaChintz said, it's still going through your connection.

My ISP charges for a set usage amount each month. Regardless if I use a VPN or not, the usage is still calculated towards that monthly balance.

Yeah, your usage is still counted, a VPN is effectively used to bypass blocks and browse/download anonymously - able to change Geolocation and all that too.



What your ISP sees is that you're connecting to a VPN and that's is, it no longer is able to see what you're doing from that point since all your browsing and downloading is carried on on the VPN, however, your ISP still manages your download/transfer vis the VPN to yourself which is still a 1:1 ratio.

For real, 200$ and usage limit in 2018 is some kind of medieval in information technologies, just weird. VPN won't do any help, it could cover your traces in web, but you still using traffic, so for ISP it doesn't matter are you using it or not , traffic stream still counts. http://topsecur.com - covers VPN's that provides comfortable web usage, but you better find another ISP.

Thanks for the site its got a lot of good info! Wish I could get another provider, however even in the big city they still have the monopoly here for internet so you're kinda stuck, if you want the speeds. this moment i got 340mbps most other providers only go to 50mbps around here. its consumerism at its best lol.
